He can head the ball which Gilbert can't.Otherwise I'd agree there's not much difference between them. They're both **** poor.We should be looking urgently for a new left back in this transfer window otherwise we might blow our chances of automatic promotion.
Is Barker still playing as badly as he did against Daggers btw?

I thought he was struggling for fitness at Shrewsbury; wonder if he's trained more days than Ryan Hall over the last couple of weeks.

Can we please get away from this idea that Prosser is '****' poor. He had a poor start, and got better, so much that he surprised quite a lot of people this season and as OBL said, won player of the month. At 23 he's got a lot of football ahead of him, and should be getting opportunities if we see him having a long term future with us.

He suprised me against Daggers all right. He was just awful.:omg:

Bloody hell, me and Pubey agree on something! :omg:

Clohessy, Coughlan, Prosser and Barker at LB, with Mohsni on the bench to slot in if and where necessary. I really do think it's worth the "old man" starting this one, it's one where guile may be a lot more valuable than other defensive attributes.

Sorry but no, i think Prosser can cover LB but not the centre and Coughlan got ripped to shreds by Aldershot on Boxing Day .. together i'd see Swinetown racking up a hatful

Think we really should look into getting a quick centre back on loan, regardless of the fitness of Phillips and Barker. We really do lack a bit of pace in that position.

Prosser is ok, reasonable awareness and heading ability - he is let down by his lack of pace though which has left us noticably exposed at times. For that reason I don't think he would be great cover at LB, although with Martin as an outlet he may be able to hold his position better and not have to push up so much.

Another defender on loan would be good, if only to give us options - the last thing we need going into Swindon is a nervy defence.

Dailly was last training with Northampton. Personally, I think Prosser has done well when covering this season - certainly looks a lot more confident than last season. He's still young and getting time alongside Barker or Coughlan or even Phillips can only be of benefit in the long run. Prosser won the Trust's POTM award for August this season, started the season really well.

Let's be honest that was a sympathy vote...it was more that he was less crap than usual. To say he started the season really well is a wee bit over the top.

Surely he shouldn't be getting opportunities ahead of better players...surely some form of merit should apply.
I have no axe to grind with Prosser, but he doesn't appear to be good enough for this level. However i take your point that if we are not going to use him when others are out then there seems little point on him being here.

Yeah I agree, but better players can be out of form, and surely a time must come when Prosser should be considered. We're not defending particularly well at present, and in particular Barker seems short of form/carrying an illness. I don't expect Luggy to drop Barker next week, especially if we're going to play Mohsni due to Phillips' injury, but if Barker or Gilbert were to be injured, I'd hope we'd play Prosser rather than run straight to the loan market.

If we were mid-table with little chance of going up/down then i would agree. With every point being precious for us now i would rather if we had an opportunity to bring in/play a stronger player than what we have i would take that all day.

Agree with that 100% - if not we've just been wasting money on his wages all season. It's different if a player becomes available on loan who is clearly a class above...but I'd rather play Prosser than just go out and sign a youngster on loan who may or may not be any more effective.

Surely Mohsni just slots in at the back if Phillips isn't fit?
I'm worried Mohsni will get ripped to shreds at the back (was it against Swindon in the JPT where he played at the back and looked awful?) hopefully I'm wrong but I'd feel safer if we got another defender signed

Moshni will definately play CB. Sturrock will not play 2 left footed players in the centre of defence.Thats been obvious
during the season. Moshni gives us the balance and power whether you like him or not.
Swindons main threat comes down the right. To be fair in the JPT i thought we had it about right for 70mins.

Chris Phillips says on Twitter that Sturrock is hoping to sign a defender before Tuesday. Suggests that Phillips (Mark) might be out for a while?

i see paul jewell has made five bids for different players over the last few days, i wonder if any are southend players ? hall or grant maybe ?

Im going for the guy from Aberdeen. Has been mentioned quite a bit over the past few weeks by various sources. Out of contract at the end of the season i believe. Think his name is Rory Mcardle.

I think you should be looking a bit closer to home .. i can't say directly as i'm not certain its a totally done deal
