Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
The Charlie Warren deal to Bolton was done a long, long time ago. Understand we mulled over the player for too long and Bolton snooped in, with other EFL clubs also showing interest at the time.

Nothing to do with data before anyone thinks it was that! Data on players does not extend below the National League North/South.
For bolton it’s probably ok to have a bit of a punt that doesn’t work out. For us, they’ll probably end up with 20 games in our first team.

40 signings made so far with Sutton bagging 9 and Boston 6. Looks like Altrincham spending some money too
No rush though for us as and with our fantastic extended run to the final, very understandable, 9 others not made a signing either

Over a full season I would back Goodliffe to score more goals than Walker, Hopper or Bonne.
I know what you are getting at, but I truly hope not.
With a proper pre-season and decent supply in game time all three should at least get 10 goals in a full season.
I am not saying I am happy with all three, we definitely need a proven goal scorer in this division. Hopefully KAF, Leon etc can supply the chances for our strikers to convert.

I do understand the frustration at missing out on a couple of targets but this isn’t something which just happens to our club, it happens to every club. Even Real Madrid don’t sign every player they’re in for. Sometimes a player will opt for a club in a higher division because they’ll back themselves to break into the team and sometimes, like in the Madrid situation, some players might be more realistic and decide to go elsewhere where games are more likely.

So Cashman is heading to Crawley. Yes they haven’t got the Football League heritage of our club and we get bigger crowds. But they are a Football League club and we aren’t. Plus if it’s true he’s from the area there then that’s another tick in a box for them.

If we have been slow off the mark with one player then you’d hope that would only need to happen once for an internal process to be streamlined. But we might miss out on further players. It’s somewhat out of our control because players join particular clubs for all kinds of reasons. Until we get back in the Football League we’re always going to be up against it. And even in League Two there will be clubs with bigger budgets etc.

We are a pretty big fish in our current pond but even in this league we’d probably be outbid by York, Forest Green etc. But if we target players that want to be close to London or the South East then we might have more joy.

I think as a fan base we need to have more faith in our management team. We were 10 minutes away from the Football League after being under a transfer embargo for the entire summer window. Without those restrictions we should be excited.

Walker is still an enigma for me. I still think we haven't seen the best of him because he is more of an inside left or right player. We don't play that system to suit his attributes.

At Wembley, he got down the right at pace and cut in. Of course, he didn't score, but if he was playing that position week in, week out, he'd create a collection of similar chances and might score a few more than he has. We know he can do it because he did it previously. Unfortunately, playing in a front two, centrally with his back to goal makes him look terrible. It's simply not his game.

I do actually think he'd had a fair number of clubs interested at this level if we were to make him available. Plenty of clubs and managers will think they can recapture that previous form. Let's face it, we took that gamble with Bonne. It also wouldn't surprise me if he did well at another side, playing every week in his preferred
And for me too. he needs to play regularly , then we will see the best of him.
Must keep fit though. 15 goals minimum.
Yeah I don’t think it’s the foregone conclusion some think it is. We have no idea on terms, which plays a huge factor. If we’ve offered a decent 2 year deal with a promotion wage increase, performance incentives and a release clause, and Crawley have offered a 1 year deal on the same money and no bonuses, there’s a tough decision for him to make.
Plus the fact that he will be playing in front of a regular 8000 crowd and for a proper club, with huge potential.
Welcome Cashman!

It's always the same every season, we are very rarely a players first choice club. Give it a couple of weeks until preseason starts and those players without a club with start to get a little panicky and suddenly the Thames Riviera becomes more appealing.

It’s not always that.

Players that are released from their clubs, their contracts traditionally run until the end of June. Then their deals with us (or another club that signs them) start from the 1st July.

If a player hasn’t signed for a club by the end of July, they get one final months money from their old club. So Wood & Waldron will be paid, by us, until the end of July if they haven’t found a new club.

So, made up figures here, but say Waldron is on £1k per week, and his only interest is back in NLN for £800 a week. He may as well stay as a free agent for another month, get the more money from us, then sign on the lower deal afterwards.

That’s why, when we signed the likes of Cox, Noel Hunt, Kightly etc who were on big money elsewhere, they signed later with us to avoid the straight drop in money.

So, if you back yourself as a player, and know you can hold fire for a few extra weeks as “unemployed” then they do it. Players have all the power. I don’t blame them in this instance.

Some players like that security of a new job straight away, but that’s why you see more business towards the end of July time, not just because players return to pre-season.
