Transfer news
Walker is still an enigma for me. I still think we haven't seen the best of him because he is more of an inside left or right player. We don't play that system to suit his attributes.

At Wembley, he got down the right at pace and cut in. Of course, he didn't score, but if he was playing that position week in, week out, he'd create a collection of similar chances and might score a few more than he has. We know he can do it because he did it previously. Unfortunately, playing in a front two, centrally with his back to goal makes him look terrible. It's simply not his game.

I do actually think he'd had a fair number of clubs interested at this level if we were to make him available. Plenty of clubs and managers will think they can recapture that previous form. Let's face it, we took that gamble with Bonne. It also wouldn't surprise me if he did well at another side, playing every week in his preferred position.

What is Bonne’s preferred position?

And are Kendall and Hopper our only genuine strikers?

Kendall isn't a striker either, he is the same walker and inside forward. Hopper is more of a traditional number 10 so we don't have the traditional number 9 of a striker.

Playing three upfront with Walker and Kendall as inside right/left and someone in the middle would make the most from both of their playing styles. Maybe Hopper or Bonne in the middle to make a nuisance of themselves and preoccupy the defence to allow them to play would be the right approach.

We paid £35k for Cards and had written into his contract a release clause of £120k.

We paid less for GUS and he plays in a position that has a lower price than a goalscoring Striker.

Therefore, even with his incredible season last time around, I would expect, if we sold him, an accepted value would be between £75k to £100k, possibly with add ons, goals, appearances etc.
Is there any evidence to confirm that GSM is on his way out or is this just gossip ?

This is the thing, many assumed (quite rightly) that he's an out-an-out striker because of his exploits many years ago and we therefore judged him on his goal tally. However, he's actually showed his best qualities out wide.

I honestly believe if we'd signed him as a wide player, the majority would want him to stay. The fact we signed him as a striker makes people sceptical that he is the one that can get us the goals.

I think one of the best performances of the season was 2nd half .. FGR home, where at one point we had Walker down the left, Bonne down the right and Pepple in the middle. We didn't really persist with this, but I thought that looked a dangerous front 3 and Walker looked much more of a threat playing wide and cutting in.

So we probably need two out and out strikers then in then? Stop playing wing backs and have 3 up front?

Problem with that is the defence as it stands isn't set up for a four. Taylor was found out a little without having the extra man to cover him, GSM isn't a classic RB as let's be honest he isn't great defensively plus you lose his attacking threat as he doesn't have the licence to attack the far post.

Completely agree

Mmm, I agree. I think we are in for an interesting off season though. Think Kev and Co know they need to tweak it so will be interesting who we bring in and how we set up pre-season.

Missed out on this departing players speculation over the last week. GSM linked to who sorry ? FWIW, i'd cash in as he's at peak age and is unlikely to replicate his goalscoring exploits again. As some have already pointed out, he's not a great defender anyway and we have a ready made replacement who looks pretty good from the little we've seen of him. As Cosu have lined out, selling players to higher up the pyramid is part of our new operating model and if a suitable bid is tabled or release clause met, it'll be in the financial interests of the club.
