age is only a number if these players can do the thing that matters most WINNING games then happy days ..Last season fans were moaning the there was to many kids in the team .Now some are moaning these players are to old .

I think people are forgetting that the National League is dominated by much older experienced players.
I think that's true. I'd be more worried if we signing a raft of 19-21 year olds. We can add a sprinkling of those later. As Young MC once sang you need to have Know How.

It is quite weird that everyone said that we had too much youth at the start of last season and we desperately needed experience. Now we are trying to get that experience, (players who have actually played games too) but that's wrong.

Don't forget we have Walsh, Egbri, Hobson, Clifford, Howard, Rush and Gard that are all young.

The 'older' players we are linked with have all played at this level, they know exactly what to expect and how to play in this league.

Let's be honest, big lump Rhead tore us a new one when we played Borehamwood and he has been 'past it' for years. That's the kind of player that thrive at this level.

Don't forget age is not important Bazza. The only thing that matters every summer is how early they are signed. You have been telling us this fact for the last 7 seasons

Getting to 5 minutes from the 3rd tier play offs? Go on then

The news about James Dunne is a bit sobering, especially when you consider there are some really excellent midfield players like Wrexham's Devonte Redmond and Luke Young who have come to their end of their contracts.

If PB is still looking for a centre-back, he could do worse than 6' 3" Fiacre Kelleher, the former Macclesfield captain who has just been surprisingly released by Wrexham.

That is a surprising release and I hadn't seen it! Would be after him like a shot. I doubt Vassell would fancy another go here unfortunately or I might think about him too.

Another player that could do very well at Southend is 27 year old Hallum Hope just released by Swindon. This player was a target for Sol Campbell before the club walked into a transfer embargo that was to last almost a year. Hope scored a lot of goals at Carlisle as an attacking midfielder before moving to Swindon. Realistically, Hope will probably get himself another league club.

Sadly I suspect we will not be in the market for players with any realistic chance of securing an EFL team.

I hope I am wrong.

On the bright side, I usually am wrong.

Maybe I shouldn't have typed that though because I'm probably wrong to say I'm usually wrong......or am I?

In PB we trust. For now, anyway....

Thats my point in a post that i put up we need wise old heads to get out of this league .

I saw that too but think Hope was one of their better players and let his contract run down rather than be released I think. There’s apparently some league one clubs in for him so seems very unlikely unfortunately

Not forgetting we also expect the cost of season tickets to be reduced further reducing revenue for the club having some effect on the playing budget no doubt- unless of course somehow we don't think there is a connection..

Average age of National League squads/ starting eleven in 2020-21

Very interesting. Be interesting to see also league position as generally (note generally) the clubs lower in the division has a lower average age.
Anyway we will end up with an average age somewhere in the middle or maybe a little lower than most. Hart looks as he has signed (25), Bridge (25), Cordner hopefully (24). It seems to me we are seeking a mix of youth and experience and plenty in between. We can characterise as Dad'd Army if we want, but it wont make it so and you have unearthed the perfect table for reference once the dust settles (even if the facts end up spoiling a good story or two)..

The Oldham manager, Keith Curle, was Hope's boss at Carlisle and is a huge admirer of the player so a move to Oldham is probably on the cards.

If Dunne is like a Deegan, in other words a midfield enforcer, wont set the world alight goal scoring wise ( i suspect if Ferguson gets his finger out of his backside he could we score 7/8 goals as clearly has some shooting ability) and vastly experienced, he might well just be what the doctor ordered for this division.

We are never going to sign worldies at this level, hell we couldn't even do that at the level above. We all know Phil likes hard working players so I have no issues with recruitment so far....other than Halford ( can only assume he is good in the dressing room) and Demi ( please for the love of God RB only!)

Appears that in a total contrast of Yeovil fans not being happy with losing Murphy, the Barnet fans are very happy to be losing Dunne to us.. not inspiring considering where they just finished.
