A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

That’s my fear and a big two fingers up to the club that helped him get his professional break!
I'm not sure that's the case. Being from London I doubt he wants to move to Scotland. By this point I would imagine clubs simply can't or don't want to pay the compensation and fishing in Scotland is plan B.

I feel for Elvis a little bit in this scenario. His due a move, COVID has made it a tough market and compensation has left him in between a rock and a hard place.

As has the fact that he's been part of a team which has not only suffered successive relegation, but has also posted 2 of the worst campaigns in EFL history. His stock will not be high. I know that sounds harsh and he's definitely been one of the best of a poor bunch, but that's reality.

Unfortunately his agent refused to even negotiate a deal with us even though we wanted to. That should have been the plan B.

Hopefully the agent is currently paying Elvis out of his own pocket. We offered the £1 more as an opener as that ensured the compensation, but we were prepared to negotiate something.

Elvis didn’t want to negotiate with us.

Did the club make a serious offer or did they just offer the minimum required to be entitled to compensation?

PB's comments sounded very much like the latter.

The Club made the minimum offer to ensure compensation, but said they wanted to negotiate a deal as PB wanted him to stay, along with RD & CF.

However, Elvis’ mind has been made up a while ago, deal or no deal, he was walking at the end of the season.

And yet he went into the local rag and said he wanted to help the club get back if i am not mistaken, just shows you what football is all about if that is true (as in said in the local rag he wanted to hep the club return)

it is his career wish him well where ever he goes personally.

EDIT *** 17:25

seems he said it at the end of this interview

Thing is, he is hardly likely to say “You know what, this has been woeful for as long as I can remember now, I can’t even remember the last time I won a game, sod it I’m off to the highest bidder”.

When you listen to players interviews, you hear the same cliches, the same spiel, the same lines. We, as fans, read too much into these interviews. How often do players actually come out and say the truth? Like the Charlie Austin rant about VAR.

Just look at players Twitter accounts after games. I scrolled through Luton’s earlier to try and dig out more information of Sim’s match for Col Ewe’s 23s. They retweeted their players tweets. Almost identical.

Players get so much media coaching, you very rarely hear anything that is worth listening too.

But you dont have to answer in the way he did.

am not having a go at him just saying be careful as some fans take those things word for word.

for me at my age it is easy just to let them go as no player means what he actually says, like when a player joins a club of this stature…. They are one of my clubs…… its all a load of bull 99% of the time

How should he word it?

I agree, but he has just been relegated and been put on the spot. The media coaching comes into it then. As you say, some fans believe word for word what these players say and take it as gospel.

But look at Anton’s piece in the Echo, very open and refreshing, but I bet if you looked through his post match interviews, tweets, whatever, it wouldn’t have read like that. Would have read like everyone else’s.

Thing is, we live in a world where fans want news 24/7 on their Club’s. We want signings yesterday, we want to know the ins and outs of a ducks arse. I posted an update Monday evening, and come Wednesday people are screaming to know more. Players, managers etc are always pushed for a quote, a story, a revelation.

PB is a lot better in talking to CP than MM was. PB will give hints and tips, like this striker who will raise eyebrows. He’ll update again on Holmes, he’ll provide information. MM wasn’t as forthcoming. That’s his choice. But people, who demand answers and information from PB, will then moan about us being “close to signing someone” then not hearing the next day he is through the door. People demand answers on the Holmes situation, PB has provided lots of updates, then people will moan there is loads of talk and not much action.

Players, and managers alike, simply can’t win. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t. Knowing how the situation has panned out with Elvis for example. How much will people moan if he’d be honest and said exactly what has played out?

Not sure he’s gone the best way about it, he now has no match fitness and hasn’t put himself in the window. People will have to go off his performances last season and the one before. Surely wouldn’t you want to be the stand out player in our pre season and show potential suitors what you can offer. I understand the not wanting to get injured but still think he’s been a bit poor over this whole situation. To be honest the sooner he is the gone the better, if he’s going to down tools, bye then!

Maguire-Drew a target of PB has signed for Woking.
Obviously we weren’t keen, Woking are far from the best payers in this league. They’ve also lost 2 players from last season that were offered better contracts elsewhere. One of those went to Ebbsfleet (NL South).
