A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Agree with the comments on timings and why that article might not be entirely relevant to us.

Clearly Akinde isn't the most reliable person in the world and even when his mind is made up it transpires it isn't. And as always rhere will be an agent chirping away in the background.

There is a saying- time is always working for someone. In this case all the pressure is on Evans and Gills. Evans doesn't want him and needs him out to bring someone in (Wed being mentioned as a deadline, Gills creating that time pressure on themselves a bit). Akinde will just sit tight. He has a big contract. Evans will say you wont be playing but Akinde knows that is an empty threat unless he signs someone else.

Unlike Gills our season does start until 21st. So we can afford to wait a bit. As before Akinde (or more likely his agent) will want to make the pips squeak financially here. If he met Brown he has all the experience in the world of how to handle this situation.

That said I still can't see it...

Seems bizarre they are letting him go when they only have one other striker.
Hes on a big wage, suspect Scully is telling Evans get him out and then you can spend the money bring one or two in. Which will incrementally wind Evans up more and more as the season approaches...he probably has who he wants lined up...

I can imagine akinde probably quite happy to play the waiting game for the best deal possible, probably best wage a club can offer him! Can we really afford to wait around for someone who turned us down in January at the last minute. By going on sufc past experience with akinde, maybe its best we turn are attention to someone else.

I still find it really weird he would even consider dropping down to non-league. I also find it even harder to believe clubs higher up wouldn't want him.

Mullins? Why is Murphy non-league with his goalscoring record (including in EFL). There are a few others. Can't believe £££ doesn't come into it. Maybe for top strikers what top half NL will pay may be better than many L2 clubs. Who knows..

To be fair I wasn't referencing players like Mullins because he clearly has specifically moved for money.

Murphy has moved from a NL team to another NL team. He hasn't dropped two leagues to come to us.

When talking about Akinde, we really aren't in a position to offer top wages. He surely will get offered what he wants from at least a league 2 club. That's why I said I find it hard to believe.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong.

The Akinde thing seems a bit odd if he didn't want to join us in Jan because we were in danger of relegation why would he want to join us now when we have actually been relegated.
Could be down to the length of the contract we would be a year with a view to a 2nd he probably wants 2 years on a good wage!! He might be the difference between play offs and mid table IMO

If the Akinde thing is a goer. I guess it will involve a transfer fee, as he has been listed with one year still to run on his contract. Are we going to forgo our compensation on Elvis, and effectively do a swap deal?

I get the impression Akinde is more about the contract ( cash ) than what League he plays in

I imagine if they ask for a transfer fee it would be nominal, much less than we would get for Elvis - they sound keen to get his wages off the book.
