A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

TBF none of us knows what he is on- so an increase may, or of course may not, be justified.
I was talking about Tim Dieng and whilst I hate to single out individuals, it’s perhaps best for all concerned if we part ways at this point. Ok he did a good job filling in at CB for a bit, but in my opinion, as a midfielder he’s never really impressed for Southend. Yes he’s played in a losing team and maybe we haven’t seen the best of him. Wish him well, nothing personal whatsoever.

I am not a fan of Elvis, nobody can give me a long list of good matches he has had. Gets in good positions and does nothing with it, bad defensively. Being one we brought through does not make him able and worthy of legend status. Not terrible but not special. Sorry to see him go? Not fussed really

His contract was his first professional contract and signed when he was just 18 with 6 first team appearances to his name and he will have been paid accordingly.

Since then he has become not just a first team regular but also player of the season and a rare bright spot in a difficult time for all.

Through all this time he will have been on a fraction of what his more experienced overpaid and underperforming team-mates will have been. It's hardly his fault that we conceded so many goals down the left-hand side.

Ordinarily a player would expect a new deal when they go from being someone on the fringes of the squad to a first team regular. They would then expect a new deal when they were player of the season. He's therefore been overdue a new contract for some time. Instead the club exercised the fourth year option last season, meaning an experienced first team player played the season through on what will have essentially been an u23 contract.

Unlike others he refused to down tools to force a move away. He got his head down and kept quiet and didn't complain, even as many of his contemporaries (Bishop, Yearwood, Kelman, Hutchinson, Humprhys) - all with fewer first team appearances under their belt - got their moves and substantial pay rises. He's handled himself with dignity throughout, especially with the way he mentored the young players following through in his footsteps.

Even when he gets the move away he's earnt, the club will benefit financially. Yet he's greeted not with a thank you but by being told not to let the door hit him on the way out.

The lack of respect shown for him is disgusting.

Superbly articulated summary.

Thank you.

Amazing to see all those slating Dieng, I wonder if they were the same who were singing his praises during our revival in Nov/December where he was being mentioned as 'first name on team sheet'?

Always been the last name on my teamsheet since his arrival, never knew whether he would bother to turn up or not.

I'm not sure about that. Elvis is a solid right-back who is maturing each season and has improved defensively. There is no guarantee we'll find a decent replacement, although it's possible Howard may step up.

As for Dieng, I think he is a useful utility player to have in the squad and was certainly one of our better performers last season.
Demi is a better RB and proved that last season. If in doubt go back to the ratings and comments when he played there. Not a long term solution but for next season. And Howard might turn out to be better as well.

But he is not on his original deal? Yes we have taken an option a couple of times but options taken on new contracts he signed? You seem to know what he is being paid- I don’t so you have the advantage on me- as you are in the know, as it were, can you share roughly how much less he is on the other members of the squad?

I too don’t agree on slaughtering players (often soon after, as been said, they were “first on the team sheet”) just because they want to leave. If Elvis wants out then he needs to find a club will to pay compensation- and given that might not be simple in the current climate keeping relationships all round on an even keel might be wise. I would like to think the agent would be giving good advice- sadly often their prime motivation is likely to be their fee. Maybe not in this case.
I guess we are paying him to the end of this month and would guess no one will want it dragging on beyond that.

Agree with that.

I think the fact he has now been offered a much better contract and stated his desire to stay at "his" club is what has irked most.

Demi has not signed a contract. If he goes we will be left with one very junior right back.

Howard maybe junior but was getting excellent reviews whilst out on loan last season,,IU myself hope hes given a chance to prove himself.

All this could be the making of Howard. Certainly, Ricky Duncan has made it clear that he rates Howard very highly although Phil Brown said somewhat strangely at the end of the season that he had not seem Howard play.

This has saved me the bother of a lengthy response to all the ingrates on here. Thank you.

You know that what he has been offered is a 'much better contract' as fact? So what was his previous contract and what has he been offered now?

And as for his comments about wanting to stay... he was put on the spot at a highly emotional time and I believe, at that moment, he meant it. He has shown in the past that he cares about our club. However, things change. Adults posting on here should know this.

Maybe family, friends and/or agents have had words of advice.

He's a professional footballer. Perhaps he's been told what he could earn with move and compared that to his new offer from Ron.

Maybe he doesn't feel he's been treated either respect by our club during his time with us, or during negotiations.

All speculation. Probably just like your statement about his 'much better' offer.

There is a separate thread for dieng and Elvis not attending training. Why are we discussing this on the potential signings thread? I come on this thread to hear rumours of who we are signing.

Quite right, I’m getting bored of reading through post after post of the Elvis and Dieng saga. Any further posts will be moved to the other thread.

Have been told not to be surprised if there is a new face for the “proper” start to pre-season on Monday. But whether that’s a permanent signing, a trialist, or someone from another club training, or even us doing a player a favour I don’t know. Time will tell.

@CJPhillips1982

Hearing a very familiar face will be in for pre-season training with Blues on Monday. Chasing it up now and will post story ASAP.
