A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

I trust the club are going to be strong in their dealings with these players and give them a deadline. As I have said before I dont want any player at the club who is not 100% committed to the cause of getting out of the NL

Why is there so much surprise that these two didn't make an appearance? We all knew that Elvis definitely would depart (for the right offer) and Dieng still thinks he can get an FL side, and he probably will. I would have been surprised if they had turned up. Good luck to the pair of them wherever they end up. A pro footballer's life is short and you have to do the best for yourself and family not be concerned what the fan base think.

He's not under contract any more. If I was leaving my job, my contract ended, and they wanted me back for a training seminar a week after I'd left, i wouldn't go to be honest.

I would if there was ketchup or brown sauce to put on my bacon sandwich

Disappointed that Elvis has not shown up, maybe has good reason?
Realistically he will get a better standard of football away from The Hall next year and his agent ought to be able to arrange that, if not then the agent needs sacking.
It is a short career and Elvis is at a crucial time and age.
Good luck to him, he IS a really nice lad and has his dreams.
A creative contract with buy out clauses could still be offered.
I think with Tim Dieng if he is going elsewhere then that fine. He is out of contract and if he wants to burn his bridges thats fine. As PB says it sends the message that he expects to be elsewhere.
As for Elvis I'm afraid it is somewhat different as I am sure the agent you refer to knows. He can't go anywhere without the club being approached and a fee discussed. The agent has to find a club will to pay a meaningful fee for a RB. If Elvis was a quality L1 signing this would be something an agent should manage. Unfortunately Elvis (or his agent) probably need to find a L2 club will to negotiate a meaningful fee or risk tribunal. He is our player (out of contract or not) until this happens and i believe we pay him to the end of July anyway.
Elvis would be wise to keep the Club onside. (As with Kelman agents tend to think having a massive sulk and going AWOL works better. Difference is QPR had the ££ and were willing to pay)
So Demi, Holmes turned up???

Can’t begrudge it for either of them, but Elvis’ words on staying to come back up leave a bitter taste when he doesn’t even turn up for pre-season. Showed his youth and naivety there.

It takes two and do we know the club actually gave him a reasonable offer rather than offered the absolute minimum to attract compensation? The deal that just expired was one agreed when he was basically a youth team player rather than an established pro with a player of the year award in his locker. He's a rarity in that he's a player who is actually due a payrise.

Elvis is out of contract and so can go where he wants. He absolutely does not have to get Southend's permission to speak to other clubs.

Clubs who haven't had paying fans in grounds for the last 18 months might be understandably hesitant to incur transfer fees and they might want greater certainty as to what expenses they will incur so may wish to agree a fee to avoid tribunal but he is absolutely not our player since his contract expired.

Any agent with the players' best interests in mind will be advising him to stay away. If the player gets injured doing the beep test that player is going to be unemployed. The only reason you turn up is if the contract has been essentially agreed in principle and you need to sign.

Disappointed because these were two of our more competent players last year and would have been a real asset this year. Not over yet I guess and no one is irreplaceable.

Maybe, maybe not. Probably to be fair Demi and Holmes' agents will probably do as they want, not the other way around. Elvis is younger and more likely to take advice whether good or otherwise.
You have more knowlege of Elvis' contract and what he is offered than I do. However it has been renegotiated more then once since he was a youth player?
In the end, and as you point out, I agree its very unlikely a club will just sign him without agreeing the compensation with us.
I agree he can talk to other clubs, and in theory contrary to the above, could sign for them and that club just risk not being able to agree compensation, or risk the tribunal. Just think its unlikely for a maybe L2 RB in the current climate.
Anyway I imagine we wont need to wait long.
Good news is Demi is a better RB today, and Howard may well be tomorrow.

Couldn’t agree more, but not sure I’d spend my last week saying I’ll help achieve next year’s targets either. No bad blood against him though, he’s bound to have better offers and is one of the very, very few of our squad who deserves to be playing EFL football.

He's a rarity in that he's a player who is actually due a payrise.
Really? He’s not someone I’d be looking at keeping or giving a solid offer to. On what basis he deserves a pay rise I’m unsure exactly. We’ve just been relegated in successive seasons!

TBF none of us knows what he is on- so an increase may, or of course may not, be justified.

Good to see that all it took was Elvis not turning up to a training session (whilst out of contract) for SZ to turn on him. Whether you think he's good enough or not the guy made over 100 appearances for us and always looked like he cared about the result despite how crap we were. If he feels it's time to move on then good luck to him, footballers don't have a long career and if he feels it's time to move on then that's fair enough for me.

Neither were great last season, both easily replaceable for me, let them go. Just get the right compensation for Elvis. He was great when he broke through but gone downhill for me (albeit they all did!)
I'm not sure about that. Elvis is a solid right-back who is maturing each season and has improved defensively. There is no guarantee we'll find a decent replacement, although it's possible Howard may step up.

As for Dieng, I think he is a useful utility player to have in the squad and was certainly one of our better performers last season.

2 players that played there part in us being completely ****…… elvis couldn’t care less… and dieng can just go…. Not good for us dead wood!!

His contract was his first professional contract and signed when he was just 18 with 6 first team appearances to his name and he will have been paid accordingly.

Since then he has become not just a first team regular but also player of the season and a rare bright spot in a difficult time for all.

Through all this time he will have been on a fraction of what his more experienced overpaid and underperforming team-mates will have been. It's hardly his fault that we conceded so many goals down the left-hand side.

Ordinarily a player would expect a new deal when they go from being someone on the fringes of the squad to a first team regular. They would then expect a new deal when they were player of the season. He's therefore been overdue a new contract for some time. Instead the club exercised the fourth year option last season, meaning an experienced first team player played the season through on what will have essentially been an u23 contract.

Unlike others he refused to down tools to force a move away. He got his head down and kept quiet and didn't complain, even as many of his contemporaries (Bishop, Yearwood, Kelman, Hutchinson, Humprhys) - all with fewer first team appearances under their belt - got their moves and substantial pay rises. He's handled himself with dignity throughout, especially with the way he mentored the young players following through in his footsteps.

Even when he gets the move away he's earnt, the club will benefit financially. Yet he's greeted not with a thank you but by being told not to let the door hit him on the way out.

The lack of respect shown for him is disgusting.

Hang on were you talking about Elvis or Dieng? I assumed Dieng. I agree, criticism of Elvis is harsh and unwarranted.
