In terms of loan players, does our league kick of before The Football League? And does that mean that there may be a time gap from the start of our season until clubs higher up the pyramid decide that some of their players can go out on loan?

The EFL transfer window will do that more than the start of the season.

Kev isn’t a huge fan of the loan market. He’d rather have a settled squad of contracted players. He likes the squad to be on the smaller side, like Tilson’s double promotion winning squad.

Loans will be used if required, but we won’t be reliant on the loan market.

Just a reminder that I heard at the end of last season that both Sandat & Dackers wanted to return to Southend United for the coming season .......... no inside knowledge here, nothing to back up the rumour.

I’d be very shocked if Sandat returned, not as shocked as I would be to see McCullim here however.

However, Kev does like players he knows and trusts.

Old age at 37 must be creeping in

Came in just before the transfer window closed in the 21-22 season. This was after Lopata had been recalled by Sheff Utd and we’d had a few injuries at the back. It was also around the time we also signed Kenny Clark on loan (the ultimate in forgotten centre-halves) and after Maher had packed off John White to Wimborne on loan.

Gubbins started slowly (we lost his first 3 games, shipping 8 goals in his first two starts and he looked shaky) but showed real improvement and we soon after strung together a string of clean sheets. He was quiet in the sense that whilst he didn’t stand out like Lopata had, after the first few games we didn’t really have to worry about him.

I agree, a statement signing indeed.
I doubt it would happen though. Wages would be too much, but a season or six month loan would be advantageous.
