Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
It’s not soul destroying at all. There’s never been a question that he’s a good enough footballer to play at this level - it’s just about whether another club is prepared to take on him with his baggage. Don’t forget it would have been team spirit destroying to have retained him.

Is it tho? Only 6 teams have conceded less than us in the league and no keeper has more clean sheets in the league than Collin . As a whole I don’t think our defence is as bad as some make out
Yep it's goals scored that is costing us this season - and we've signed a striker from one of the few teams that have scored less than us.

Hell of a risk for Barnet in their position. Good player yes but if it goes wrong it could derail them.

The only thing that Cav has done "wrong" (like a lot of injured players) is get back to match fitness in the first team in the absence of a reserve or B team or a proper U-23s team to get minutes in the bank in a "competitive" environment. This is no criticism of anyone - just a statement of fact. Am sure this will be rectified in the close season and our current 1st Team Coach and Chief Scout will probably run it in whatever shape or form it exists.

Back on topic - wonder if we'll get a nice New Year's present today in time for tomorrow's game (assuming it's on)? If space is being made in the squad with the removal of one or two (who must be on a fair wedge), we could have capacity?

Yes and if that was the criticism, it'd be credible. However, instead people are claiming Maher has somehow destroyed him, when he's delivered exactly what we were told to expect. You've missed the point.
Which people? I've certainly not heard any criticism -other than he's a crap signing .BTW I don't have any point -other than this!

With 1500 home fans every game …. Really!
It is not about gate receipts anymore. It is all about generating off-field income. The Hive is used every single day, they have a Starbucks amongst other things. Barnet also have 7 figures of sell-on fees from the past two years alone. Their budget is amongst the best in this league.

The post I originally replied to is an example, there were a few in this thread. Did you really respond initially without reading the preceding context?

Absoutely.BTW I don't have all day to spend reading posts on SZ.

As I've mentioned numerous times on here. Barnet have multiple plastic pitches that are hired out and in near constant use. They also have 2 function suites that are hired out for weddings and other parties and both are used multiple times a week. My wife and I looked into hiring one for a party and couldn't afford it. IIRC, by the time they added on their extras, it would have cost around £10,000. The other suite was cheaper, around £7-8000.

On the cost side their stadium is very new and probably costs a fraction of what we have to spend on the upkeep of Roots Hall.

Indeed. That’s a very reasonable point to make. Unlike all the nonsense about his being Kev’s son, past his sell by date, etc.

They are looking at moving back to Barnet though and presumably see an uptick in attendance
