Exerience counts on the pitch, we brought in Lyle Taylor who is 34 and very experienced, I had my doubts but he has been great both on and off the pitch. He was signed to help bring on our two young strikers Tovide and Ihionvien but he has also scored 10 goals in 25 games and he is loving it here. Ihionvien was sold to Posh for a big fee and Tovide is being scouted by a host of championship clubs so could be off soon too. We have just taken on Tyreece Simpson another young player who has lost his way a little but he has great potential that no doubt Lyle will be tasked with developing. If Tom arrives his experience on the pitch and in the dressing room/training ground will be of great help to your younger players.
So much sense in here. I think Tom will be great for us if he arrives.

Hopper has some nous and if he is still mobile and energetic, then no problem. The likes of Bonne, Kendall and Walker can all feed off his play. A lot will depend on how many minutes a game he has in his legs and how often he can do two games in a week. It will be 'interesting' to see who is selected to play alongside him and what kind of service he gets.

Sense????????? You must have mistaken me for someone else......... Seriously, many fans only notice how a player plays, not their work behind the scenes or the quiet word on the pitch which is of so much value to the young players when the pressure is on.

Of course he will be good for other young players, and in the dressing room. But you're not a Southend fan, you're not watching all of our games, so you won't quite get it that what he offers is not our priority. We had one striker this season that we knew would score goals regularly. He sadly has now gone. So we are left with no one. As others put it, a handful of strikers that couldn't score in a brothel. It's goals we need going forward. Otherwise we are much more likely to be relegated than promoted, this and next season. We have a wing back that is more likely to score than our forwards, which is ridiculous.

Pains me a bit to say it, but Col Ewe’s academy has gotta be one of the best of the lower leagues, Crewe Alexandra aside.

You seem to have a bit of a conveyor belt of talent that consistently comes through.

Not sure what the situation was last time we were rumoured to be interested, but would really like to see us go for Harvey Sayer. I’ve said previously that whilst Kev’s system doesn’t use wingers, a lack of wingers makes it difficult for us to change things up easily. Understand why we haven’t recruited any up to this point, but I think it would be beneficial if we did now to give us some tactical flexibility.

I don’t know much about Sayer but I think he’s left footed? If he’s someone who could potentially play LWB too, he’d be a priority signing for me. Competition for Bridge at LWB and would give us the flexibility to play a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with out and out wingers - as we’d have a left and right footer in Sayer and Bridge.

Yes Robbie spends a small fortune on our cat 2 academy but we do have a lot of very decent young lads coming through all the while. We do loan a lot out to other clubs like Braintree, Chelmsford etc, and play very young players in teams well above their ages so we do tend to get thrashed at times but it toughens the lads up to be ready early for 1st team duties. We are also known as a club who bring young lads on who maybe fall out of the bigger clubs academies, a recent example of that is Jayden Fevrier who we picked up from West Ham, 2 years with us and he was sold to Stockport for a big fee in June, he is still only 21.

All that and you still languish dangerously in the bottom half of L2 for the last few seasons !

Very true TSNB, Bonne could be that striker he has the ability and having Tom alongside him could spark some life in him, look what he did at Orient and for a while at Ipswich, we shall see.

Col Utd tend to pick up all the promising youngsters anywhere near the A12. They also pick up a few Ipswich youngsters that are rejected. We tend to pick up those nearer the A13.

I know  But it is there, he is in need of a confidence boost, see him score 1 (He scored 4 for us once in a FA cup game against Wealdstone) and he will hit the net regularly.
I think its hard for you to judge him unless you have watched our games. With his experience and undoubted talent (from previous years) he should be more than capable of scoring in this league. Its not through want of trying but he has missed some sitters so its all well and good saying if he scores he will score more because he simply doesnt look like a striker who has goals in him. Bridge put one on a plate for him against Southport but he he didnt react quick enough. I dont think Maher helps as we create so few chances but then as a striker you need to make those chances count. Already Kendall looks a frustrated figure and he seems the first player to be pulled my Maher which is not helping his confidence. 21 games for someone of Bonnes experience not to score in the NL is not a great statistic

Out of interest were Tovide and Itioinvien both from your academy and been with you a while? and where did Tyreece Simpson come from?

If anyone from the club or COSU reads this thread, there will be a mixture of facepalming, tears and absolute laughter at some of the stuff posted.

At least I see some evidence that people are beginning to accept that there is an element of desperation in the people we are having to consider over the ones we actually want.

People, get real. We are shopping at food banks and boot sales. Even Poundland is probably a stretch. This is where we currently are.
