Knows where the goal is, quick, and an absolute unit. Generally finishes by just smashing the ball as hard as he can. Not a great technical player, though, and he really frustrates at times. Tends to take the wrong option when making decisions. Would have thought Isthmian Premier is his ceiling but you never know.

Incidentally, in my opinion the best player they have at AFC is a young wide forward called Joshua Stokes. Very classy on the ball and a clever finisher. Good movement as well but possibly lacks top end speed to make it in the Conference.
J. Stokes is properly a **** name though. Nobody would want that on our shirt.

That first player sounds like a taller Callum Powell.

I think I read somewhere that we'll have 14 players under contract, and under an embargo you can sign up to 16 players. Does that mean we can now sign 2 more players or will we need to wait until end June when contracts formally end?
From the last available online copy of The FA Standardised Rules relating to embargoes:

“ In the event of any Embargoed Club having its playing squad fall below 16 registered players and where none of the registered players are on short term loans then the Embargoed Club shall be entitled to sign and register a sufficient number of non-contract players to bring the total of its squad up to 16…

In the event of an Embargoed Club having a squad of 16 or less players, of whatever status, satisfying the Competition that any of those players have a long term injury (for this purpose a long term injury shall mean an injury supported by satisfactory medical evidence stating that the player or players will be unavailable for selection for a period of not less than 14 days) then it shall be entitled to sign a replacement player or players as the case may be on a non contract basis but subject to the provisions of Clause 5 hereof and for a period not to exceed the certification of the long term injury or injuries. A new player registered under this clause must not be nominated on the Team Sheet for any match at the same time as the player he has been signed to replace, and must not be engaged on more favourable terms than the player he has been signed to replace.

Where the number of eligible players falls below 11, or 11 excluding a goalkeeper, due to suspensions, a Club may make application to the Board to sign non-contract player(s) to ensure a team of 11, including a goalkeeper, can be fielded.”

In short, we could sign two more players to take the squad to 16, but only on a non-contract basis.

Ta - and presumably only after the existing players contracts expire taking us below the 16 - so end of June???

Correct; that’s the point that the squad size drops below 16.

It is worth stressing that Appendix G, where this information is detailed, was on the National League website for 2021/22, but it was removed this season and isn’t in The FA Handbook in 2022/23 either. However, as the Standardised Rule relating to the number of players required to be registered (“Each Club must have at least sixteen (16) Players registered fourteen (14) days before the start of each Playing Season”), it’s unlikely this would’ve changed.

How did Lyden do this season? He always looks good but always also injured.

Played three times or thereabouts before getting injured for the rest of the season. Was a good player a few years back but utterly finished now. Needs to hang his boots up and get on with a new career before he does some permanent damage to himself.

Orient’s released list, in case it pertains to you going forward:

Craig Clay
Sonny Fish
Anthony Georgiou
Jordan Lyden
Sam Sargeant
Harry Smith
Connor Wood
Matt Young
I was told Sam Sargeant was on our list last season to come in as 1st choice in Steve’s absence whilst we sent Collin on loan. Wonder if he is an option again.

Might be. Sam is a back-up goalie lifer and you could do a lot worse than have him as a #2. Lacks any outstanding attributes but has few glaring weaknesses either. His reaction shot stopping is fine, his distribution is fine, his communication is fine, his footwork & recovery are fine… you get the idea.

Has an issue with conceding shots from distance at his near post. Erratic command of his six yard box at set pieces, but above average command of his 18 yard box in open play (leaving his area to sweep, one-on-ones etc). He’ll do a job but don’t expect starter-level play out of him on a consistent basis.

Jack Bycroft, on loan at Taunton last season from Southampton, was in the NLS team of the season. Could be an option.,

Getting him will be hard.
