One we wont sign is Dallas, gone on loan to Barrow (from Barnsley
It would be interesting to know if the management team are keeping tabs on South Shields striker Paul Blackett. He scored 30 goals in National League North last season, is still in his mid-twenties, and seems to have a good goal scoring record (previously played at Gateshead and Spennymoor).

Could be another Langstaff?

I was just wondering what people think about the likelihood of triallists coming for pre-season games?

Would a player think there was little to lose from coming down for a game but might pass on the opportunity (because of the ongoing financial saga) if there was another option on that date?

Or is our scouting network so honed that fishing for players in this way is no longer a part of the recruitment process?

I am far more concerned with us actually having a club come pre season.

Good question. My instinct was to say we will have lots of triallists because we don’t currently have enough players to allow us to rotate.

There will always be players willing to appear on trial as there will always be players out of jobs looking for a chance to impress. Even if we’re under embargo that’s a chance to impress watching scouts/the opposition. The financial situation may though affect the quality of triallist we can attract.

Our scouting network generally identifies players without the need for a trial but there is the occasional one we want a closer look at before making a decision. Chris Wreh, for example, was signed under this regime after a trial.

However last season we didn’t have a single triallist - was that because the embargo rules prevent them or because our situation was so chaotic with games being cancelled that we couldn’t organise any?

Think I remember reading last year that we weren't allowed trialists due to the embargo. Must be National League rules as we were pretty much only trialists in 2010.
