Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2023-24 (Part 2 - Back in Business. Oh no we’re not)

Tbh if we signed pierce and McCallum then I'd say the chances of automatic promotion jump up dramatically.

Are we definitely in for them?

I know London shrimper says so but how accurate is he usually?

Whilst I won’t ever say names, or very rarely confirm or deny rumours, @londonshrimper. is the most accurate for transfers of the ITK, or some people that claim to be but don’t know a thing.

When he puts a name out there, I’d tend to believe it. There are others on here, and X (Twitter) who link us to players, but unless it comes from @londonshrimper. or Chris Phillips, I tend not to believe them.

Whilst he links us to different names, and not everyone of them comes off, and Pearce and/or McCallum might not, he has accurate information.

He doesn’t just have someone on the inside at the Club. He knows agents, directors at Clubs, other players etc so isn’t just being fed stuff from one person.

No one is ever going to be 100% spot on with stuff, or things change in the background that makes the information look false (I.e. with the takeover stuff, and a few names released) it’s always posted in good faith.

Whilst it is great we are being "linked" with the likes of Pearce & McCallum etc, Two players I think most of us agree should in theory address most of our problems in front of goal. We need to be mindful that off the pitch (Through no fault of COSU of course) we are still a bit (a lot) of a basket case...

We still have the WUP hanging over us (Who is paying it/Will it be adjourned/Is it the end?) and if that wasn't enough, we still have this never ending nightmare of our club being held hostage by the Rat and the mountain of debt and tangled webs he has weaved. We have a group of top guys pumping in several millions of their own money, without owning a thing as yet. For that, we should be hugely grateful. But, they can't and won't be able to do this forever with no tangible assets to show for it. There is a line.

Whilst this uncertainty still hangs over our club some 14 months on from the initiation of the sale process, we must be prepared for the very real possibility we are going to yet again, miss out on our top targets this summer. We should not be losing out to many if any club in this division, in a straight out battle for a player signature. But the reality is, until the sale is completed, we just aren't anywhere near as attractive as our great club should be. That makes me sad and angry in equal measure, but it is what it is right now.

I hope we see Pearce and/or McCallum holding that navy blue scarf of ours aloft soon, but my gut feel is one or both of them will end up elsewhere in this division. Another kick in the nuts (just like previous summers) and a reminder of where we are right now. Not on a level playing field.

Sorry to put a downer on things, that's not my intention. But I feel this is a realistic view (IMO) of where we are right now and we should perhaps temper expectations. At least until the point the WUP is dismissed and the club is sold, if ever!...

That's the thing isn't it. until the off field issues are resolved, kev & co haven't got many weapons at there disposal to attack the summer transfer window, though we probably only need 3/4 addictions providing we keep the current squad going into next season but given the club is in limbo I'm not sure if kev & co have budget of some sorts available. The league as whole next season looks weak compared to previous season with no Chesterfield, Notts county, Stockport and Wrexham, 4 pretty big clubs not just in this league but for league 2 also. The league as whole diminished interms of size of clubs and quality of player. Its there for Southend to go for promotion, I truly believe that but if we are going into another season with uncertainty then the job looks tougher for all to achieve that goal we all deep down want.

Fully expect it will appear on TC9 on twitter soon

its right would should be seeking the best players in this league in positions we need to strengthen. If they are southern based I would argue we are by far the most attractive option. Especially if the takeover completes those players could and should expect to be competing at the very top of the league- and that will be an attraction along with the level of support etc.

Even if the takeover were delayed we are led to believe the budget will not be going up so in terms of the offer we make does it make a difference? Seems to me other than for the embargo the likes of McCallum and Justhum would alreadt be here?

Until the takeover is complete, I do fear this transfer chat is simply going to be another summer long tease with us watching other teams sign our targets.

I genuinely think an embargo is on the horizon ... so unless we are able to sign players now ... I'm going to be very hesitant to join in with transfer speculation.
Pity we can't sign ayone before next week when we will probably be under another embargo

Thanks Ron!

I cant speak for the others, but when we have not paid our bills we usually have another embargo and deadline is a week today.

Fingers crossed this wont be the case
Maybe somebody can correct me here, but as I understand it, embargos are for football related debts (like player wages) and HMRC. The money owed in relation to the latest WUP threat is not football related.
