Goals win matches, think back to Freddie, Lee , SVC and a few others from the past. If we truly want to get out of this league ASAP then we are in bad need of a striker or two, ones that know how to put the ball into the back of that onion bag .We are well off now defence wise with players ,have midfielders what we need at this time is Strikers.

Chris Phillips has just tweeted something interesting (sorry can't post it at mo).

The idea that we will spend £100k on any player while we are in the NL is laughable

Yes we've been taken over, but we're not in the position to be making those kind of moves
This is not true. Fees will be paid over the duration of contracts. We have signed players since being in NL (still in the squad) with fees almost as high as that. But split that over three years (for example) and it's much less weighty.

I wouldn’t be surprised that we’re going to be putting a lot more pressure on the club regarding this striker target to try get him in before Sat game.

Correct. For the accounts minded among us; called amortisation and used successfully for FFP reasons by clubs in the Premiership and for cash reasons, buy now - pay over instalments.

I imagine with Walker it would be a loan for the rest of the season - Burton may just want Walker out getting game time and regaining his confidence as he's still young. As quite rightly pointed out, the new manager could impact and certainly slow things down. Tom Hopper is a perfect example: the Cowley brothers come in and immediately confirm Hopper was a player they'd tried to sign a number of times in the past, they start him in their first game and he has a blinder.

Hearing Leyton Orient are one team interested in Walker and they're in League One - so no guarantee, like Harrison Neal, that we'll sign Walker given there's teams higher up the pyramid in for him too.

Waldron, on the other hand, is getting extremely closer. The issue I spoke about with the sell-on fee has seemingly resolved and terms with the player are not a problem - he wants the move. Southend are keen to get it resolved before Saturday's game.

Hearing Dackers is also a distinct possibility - a few people have said he cannot play for another team this season. That's not true. He's only been on loan at Altrincham. Woking was last season.

Hope this answers a few questions 👍🏼

Amortisation spreads the cost in the accounts irrespective of whether the fee to the selling club has been split in the same way or not.

I assume we use amortisation as we account for the contract, not the player?

SOUTHEND United are close to completing a loan deal for a striker, Echosport understands.
Blues boss Kevin Maher has been lacking in forward options ever since top scorer Harry Cardwell was forced onto the sidelines with a knee problem in November.

The Shrimpers have been forced into using defender Brooklyn Kabongolo as a makeshift forward but are now close to bolstering their attacking options ahead of Saturday's clash at Eastleigh.

The striker is believed to have already lined up in the National League this season.
Blues have already signed defender Adam Crowther and midfielder James Morton since their transfer embargo was lifted earlier this month.

Got to be Dackers right?

I guess that could be interpreted to include the NLN? Although the loan comment doesn't sound like Waldron as that would surely be a permanent transfer.
