I would still rather Walker than Dennis who I thought often looked lazy re tracking back etc.
Hmmm, that's such a tricky one. I do honestly get what you are saying and had it been a month ago, a may have been quicker to agree with you. However, Walker has looked so lost recently. He hasn't impacted the games at all, even just closing people down has been nonexistent. Really strange, as he was great at doing that early doors.

Whereas Dennis (rather unexpectedly) turned into a productive poacher. Whilst his pace was frightening at times, it was his ability to be in the right place at the right time that really became potent. That may have just been a one-off, as he hasn't replicated that since then.

Maybe a good, proper preseason will allow Walker to recapture that brilliant daggers form that earned him a move to Burton.

I'd like us to go in for Dion Pereira in the summer.

Left footed, can play on either wing and has 13 goals and 10 assists in 50 appearances for Daggers.

Coming up to 26 years of age, so yet to peak perhaps?

Worth a punt as I think he's out of contract at Luton this summer. We desperately need a proper winger IMO.

Perhaps Stilly can work his magic?

Sounded from the messages given by Tom last night that we are going to focus more on rebuilding the East Stand than trying to get out of this league. His comment was along the lines of we will be more financially sustainable with the new stand than getting promoted. I get that may be the case but that is massively disappointing too as ultimately we all want out of this league asap. Attendances will drop if we dont go up or at least challenge.

I get what you're saying but I don't think they aren't trying to get out of the league. He was just saying it wasn't imperative for our financial survival right now and therefore, won't make rash decisions like sacking the manager just because we draw at Tamworth.

I've said this so many times that Justin has never once said on record that he expected us to get out of this division, that's a fans expectation/demand/need. We had to hear Ron repeatedly say that we can't survive at this level and we heard it for so long that fans assumed COSU felt the same. They've said countless times, they don't. Of course, it's a huge preference to get promoted, but not an essential aim at this point. I too want to get promoted asap, but I'm also trying to see the bigger picture of what we need to do to make sure we have a club in ten years time. Sacking managers and spending £200k on a player isn't what COSU are about.

I think he was also just trying to tame expectations of a mass cash splash in the summer. COSU will feel that the recruitment department (which they've invested well in) can find what we need to have us challenging, without having to spend astronomical amounts of money.

I'll keep banging this drum, had we had this group of players from the start of last preseason, we'd be in the top 6 now. So with some key additions in the summer, there is no reason why we won't be next season. Keep the faith.

Attendances will drop if we're not challenging at the top of L2 as well. I think getting promoted is a riskier bet to achieving sustainability than redeveloping the east stand and trying to generate revenues 365 days a year. I also suspect that if we can get to sustainability off the pitch that will allow development and investment on the pitch

The good news is this is not an either/or choice.

We must build financial sustainability which comes from the East Stand. That enables us to have a better chance of promotion, if we haven't achieved it by then. One does not come at the expense of the other.

Absolutely spot on !

The East Stand badly needs replacing, if we are to ever generate decent revenue staying at the Hall - it's something that should've been done years ago but y'know, someone had a dream .....

I fully expect the target of the management team to be - play offs/promotion. We just need to be shrewd in the transfer market as we won't be chucking bags of cash at it.

Was that your takeaway from that? Because that wasn't quite how I interpreted it.

Nail. On. Head.

It kinda hinges on what exactly people mean when they level the charge of "not trying to get out of this league" at the club.

What does "not trying" mean to those who are saying this? Does it mean not throwing Stockport, Wrexham, Notts Co, Chesterfield, Barnet, York and FGR money at it? Because I'm not sure how many times it needs to be said that we are not even going to try to compete with that level of spending at the moment.

The club is losing £2m per season as it is. Why would any more financial risks be taken?

Having a competitive top 5 budget, and then trying to make further gains and make up the difference to the biggest spenders by recruiting better and more efficiently, and by being high performing in other areas, doesn't sound like "not trying to get out of this league" to me. Hopefully this will bear some good fruit over the summer in at least the CB, wing back and striker positions.

Doesn't have to be either/or anyway, and it isn't. Money can be spent on both facilities and new signings. Getting promoted right now, all other things being equal, just papers over the financial cracks - the club still won't be anywhere near self-sustaining. Investment in the club's infrastructure is investing in its long term future and sustainability, and is an absolute must.

Looking forward to seeing what can be done over the summer, though, and I'd probably be looking at 5 or 6 outgoings and incomings, myself.

I see Marcus Wylie, who we were rumoured to be interested in has joined Daggers on loan from the gills for the rest of the season.
Maybe one we'll look at in the summer? That's if he hasn't blown his chance by choosing the bench at Gills over us!

The East Stand is a death trap. It absolutely should be the priority. It doesn't bear thinking about if something was to catch light in there.

Football fans want success on the pitch but the actual league doesn't matter. If you're losing every week in league one, it is far less fun than being competitive in the National League. I know this because I remember it well.

We all want out of this league asap, it's embarrassing. But we're still emerging out of rubble, rubbing our eyes and adjusting to daylight.

In hindsight, there were massively unrealistic expectations about this season because we all got a bit giddy about the takeover.
