Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Rumours Etc part 2.....2024/25

Transfer news
If think they mean on the right of the front 3. I’d like to see it personally. Arguably his position and one he’s not had much opportunity to play given the 3-5-2.
Many would like to see it I think, but his ship has sailed I’d have thought just like Danny W. We can do better now and probably will in the market. Hope we find both good homes to go to, be loved and enjoy their football.

With an outside chance of play offs do we stick or twist on transfers in? I would stick with what we have or, if possible, find a couple of teen/young prospects on low wages that can be readied for next season. It's nice to encourage COSU to dig deep but, at what cost? Fans might be tempted by the price to have a punt on us reaching the play offs but, would you put the value of your house on it? Go with what we have, get the best out of them and build further in the summer.
I think now you would be looking at loans TBF. Maybe prem or L1 youngster who could play in the front three.

Can’t see permanent signings

You all talking about signing young loanees etc , i think we have suigned a lot of youngsters hopefully with potential , castoffs from other clubs , think they form our academy u18s sides . Remember we had to start again from scratch there i believe ,so just perhaps this is where we hopefully getting youngsters with sell on value in the future.

We have signed some young players who were formerly part of Academy set-ups; the majority of those are in the U19s team that plays in the National League U19 Alliance Academy South Division. The U18s - with the exception of forward Sisanda Maguranyanga who joined from Hamilton Academical after relocating - are generally local players recruited from the Eastern Junior Alliance. I can't stress what a good job Danny Heath, Tom Bailey and Oisin Seager, with the backing of the Southend United Community Foundation, have done to build those two teams up and begin the process of reintroducing the teams from U9s to U16s.

However, in terms of the second aspect, to temper expectations a little, the only time we'll receive sell-on value whilst we're in the National League is if players progress through to earn a professional contract. We were quite fortunate with Kacey Wooster's move to Newcastle United and Aidon Shehu's move to Hull City in that the players and their representatives conducted themselves in the right way and then the clubs agreed to pay some compensation, which they were not strictly obliged to do, but there's no guarantee that would be repeated in the future.

Ideally I'd like to see cover for LWB signed

Someone that offers a bit of pace and a cross

Bridge has started show sparks of his old self, but he just doesn't seem to be able to beat a man anymore.

Meanwhile on the right hand side of the pitch, Gus is finding some success with link up and using the pass and move really well. But Bridge seems to be very hesitant and 1 dimensional.

On Tuesday, he put in a couple of really good balls ... They just needed a touch from anyone and it's a goal! Really great work

But, we need another option to turn to, someone who can get to the byline and stretch teams

Easily said than done, I know

As per other poster. Wide right in front 3 not wing back
Absolutely not.

You need someone who has a turn of pace, or someone who will drive with the ball.

Gus will attack a ball but he isn't pacy enough to carry it like you'd want your striker to. He would continually turn back and keep possession, to which the ball would be recycled out eventually to Bridge, who would then set Morton who would whip it in for Gus to attack at the back post...oh, that's what we already do.

The problem bridge is he positioning both when attacking or defending due to his less than great decision making/game awareness, he had skill but it’s the reason why he had never achieved his full potential and played consistently at a higher level.

This unfortunately is difficult to coach, we need another option as teams exploit this about his game. Hopefully we can get someone into who is materially better to give us another option if available now or wait until the end of the season if not.

Kendall would probably be better than playing Ralph in the role if push comes to shove and we needed someone for a game or two

I think Bridge has also become a bit predictable. Right footer playing LWB, gets the ball out wide, goes toe to toe with his man, step over, cut back on to his right, then back heel to Ralph/Morton or put a ball in the box. If the opposition scout has done their homework, I feel like it’s not hard to nullify him. If he had a lightning turn of pace or his crossing was excellent, he could still be effective. But he doesn’t, and it isn’t really.

I think he’s been better of late, but I think Bridge really benefited playing with Wes who created space for him.

i think playing with wing backs, if one or more of your wing backs need to cut inside you really lose the width. with Wes the ball stuck in that little triangle of Bridge, Wes, Ralph so there were options to keep it wide. we've not had those combinations out wide left, ball doesn't stick as well, Ralph can't overlap as much, so we lose a bit source of attacking strength

Charlie Sayers still still without a club after being released by Partick Thistle 2 weeks ago.

Really think he could do a job at LWB. Believe that Tottenham also deployed him at CB during his stints in the Under 19s and Under 21s.

I'm sure he could get higher up the ladder but bit surprised he hasn't appeared anywhere just yet.
Well he has certainly developed physically the last couple of years, we could do worse 😉

Charlie Sayers was doing well at Tottenham, then he had some rotten luck with injuries, and he was let go.
Whether those injuries have affected him as a player, I don't know. But something caused Partick Thistle to let him go.

Also if I remember rightly he was not the quickest and if we are after something different to Bridge then pace is something we need at LWB

Partick Thistle were under pressure to trim their squad. They let 5 players leave over the window without replacing any of them. Their manager has said he would have liked to get a couple in......... Sound familiar?
