Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Rumours Etc part 2.....2024/25

Transfer news
Exeter, run by their Trust did well out of Halifax, so did the latter. Young Millenic Ali was playing for Chorley as a young 21 year old on loan from Stockport . Stockport released him, following the national league North spell with Chorley
Halifax snapped him up and then Exeter bought him from Halifax where he became Exeters top scorer, they have just sold him on to Luton for a sizeable lump

“We have to do it said Exeters Manager Caldwell, this sustainable model fuelled by resales is not a choice, this is what we need to do, not what we want to do”

Is that Jack Wood?

Who hasn’t panned out as hoped.

21-25 is the sweet spot for me. Their best football ahead of them but with some experience of senior football (and life) behind them.

Hayes, Parillon, Wind, Kendall, Gubbins, Appiah-Forson (and loanees Pepple, Golding, Goodliffe, Harness) from this season in that age bracket.
I’m not far off agreeing with you actually as you know I’ve gone on about it , the age thing for years, at the cost of irritation, especially during the well loved Brown years

It was Wind as the only under 22 year old. Signed at 21
Wood was signed over 3 years ago

I think you could rightly add Crowther, 24 I didn’t count all the loanee emergency keepers as they were such short spells. As pointed out Pepple and Golding were young loaners, and very good too , which makes a bit of a separate point, but not permanents and Goodliffe is 26 in June and also on loan

Kendall hits your sweet spot at 24, Appiah and Parillion both 23 , Gubbins and Wind now 22, as yet I don’t see Appiah and Gubbins anywhere near isell on territory, but hope to be wrong

It still overall doesn’t quite paint a picture of “The Young Ones “ coming in when 5 of our permanents average age is 28 . ? What sell on prospects there I wonder

It has I except ,seemingly been a bit needs must and desperate at times, hardly surprising at one level given the prolonged embargo

The team doesn’t need to be all 23 year olds. You can mix in a couple of more experienced heads alongside them.

I’m not sure who your 5 older permanent signings are? Hopper and Bonne - who basically now job share and then Walker who was 26.

With an outside chance of play offs do we stick or twist on transfers in? I would stick with what we have or, if possible, find a couple of teen/young prospects on low wages that can be readied for next season. It's nice to encourage COSU to dig deep but, at what cost? Fans might be tempted by the price to have a punt on us reaching the play offs but, would you put the value of your house on it? Go with what we have, get the best out of them and build further in the summer.

Certainly agree with that , a few wise, experienced heads are ways needed in the squad especially if you are going to run most of a season these days with the smallest or next to smallest squad

The 5 adding up currently to 140 years , relating to my comment about the past 3 years accepted are Hopper 31, Bonne 29, Waldron 28, Walker 27 and Hayes 25 . I avoided added in Moncur 31 on purpose as a loanee That currently presents an average of 28, plenty of experience there, but sell on.

My how time flies

It seems our store was full of goods nobody actually wanted during the sale, as yet that doesn’t look like changing, unless we do loan or buy in some strongly wanted sparkly new trinkets that people want

Who currently would you say is sell on right now. Gus has maybe moved up, Has Husain improved. Miley .? Bridge?

However I do realise we are marching along to the sustained e drum, and n
Know that may take time. So just maybe Wind, Parillion, Golding if we could get him and even Crowther might just make the shop front look a bit brighter in time.

I've often said we should just consolidate this season, then launch an assault on the league next season with KM at the helm.
Nothing anyone has said up to now on any thread has moved me from that view.

I’m all for getting the younger players on or chancing our arm with a Waldron type player. But it will never work if they aren’t getting competitive games. Surely we can arrange friendlies with local teams using our fringe players, some trialists, those returning from injury, youth players.

Yeah I think it was whispered that we were keeping tabs. Ex-Col U I think. Bucket loads of goals and assists? May have been a winger though.
I remember us being rumoured with Sayer although he has and can play LWB. He mainly plays RW or LW for Lowestoft hence the unbelievable goals record. I think he’s on penalties too.

I’d be keen to sign him. Think Ben Brookes at Maidstone would be interesting too.

Thinking of the vital summer transfer window coming up soon and it will come quickly, and the huge generosity of COSUs 3 year contracts ( which personally I wasnt a fan of ) , it will be interesting to see what movements there are in or out come July? as so many will still be with us in theory in 2 years time otherwise

Indeed as age creeps up on all of us it will start to remind us of the Brown days as we would potentially have close to a team load ( 10 ) on the books aged between 29 and 33. before the 3 year or more recent contracts are up . Plenty of experience there then unless we got some moved on ? somehow this year

(Hopper, Bonne, Waldron, Walker, Taylor, Ralph, Scott Morriss, Husin, Bridge , Miley all join the very experienced category above)

More succession planning necessary?

Whats the chances of getting a couple more in before season ends

Taylor, Scott Morriss, Walker and Husin are all 27 and Waldron is 28.

Waldron, Bonne, Bridge and Ralph are all out of contract this season I think. And the others I think are up end of 25/26 season.
