Transfer Embargo, Winding Up Petition & Staff Salary Issues

I don't think this is unexpected. It was a lot of money and I am sure Ron will be looking at the fixtures and the current state of the squad and be thinking that a couple of months or whatever is manageable.

We were excellent last night but Notts County don't look the sort of side who are going to be 12 pts worse off than us at the end of the season and so we really are aiming most likely for the 3rd spot and to win the playoffs. This current squad looks brilliant and have played most of the 10 unbeaten games under the embargo. It could be a whole lot worse.

Protests now with everything going smoothly on the pitch feels unhelpful despite my antipathy towards Ron.

1st October:

Ron: "Bridging finance has been agreed, but has not yet been completed. Once it has (weeks not months) we will discharge the HMRC debt in full"

So we are now nearly 6 weeks on from that statement and it has not been settled.
To be sort of fair, the financial markets were in turmoil around that time - its quite possible the loan agreement was withdrawn or the terms changed

PS: I believe it's a 56 day adjournment, which I guess takes us into early January 2023.

Which unfortunately probably means the embargo remains until then and so do the financial troubles (staff salaries/general day to day etc)

A statement with slightly more meat on the bones may help in this situation to calm the nerves. Not acceptable.

I’m surprised anyone believes a word that comes out of that man’s mouth anymore, it’s just words to shut people up and leave him alone.

This makes the on field performances even more remarkable given the parameters that the football management team have to work in, along with the commitment of the players when all around is sinking fast caused by a chairman who clearly, for me, doesn’t really care about the football side of matters any longer

The Shrimpers Trust notes the decision of the High Court to adjourn the winding-up petition served upon Southend United Football Club by HM Revenue & Customs.

Whilst progress on the field in 2022/23 has exceeded the expectations of many supporters following a difficult start to life in the National League last season, it is disappointing that the hard work undertaken continues to be undermined by financial issues away from the pitch.

The decision today means a dark cloud will continue to hover over Roots Hall and the people that inhabit the stadium, the club offices and the training ground for another 56 days. It amounts to a stay of execution.

Club Chair Ron Martin has less than two months to make good on his promise to the authorities and deliver in the same way the recruitment team, the coaching staff, the players and the unsung heroes behind the scenes have continued to do during a challenging period.

We appreciate times are tough and the club is faced with significant cashflow issues. We know that work has already started on a new training ground and the dream of constructing a new stadium appears closer than ever.

But the dream will remain just that if there is no football club in Southend-on-Sea for us to unite behind. We expect better from the Club Chair; no more excuses, no more delays. Own your responsibility and sort out the mess that threatens the very existence of Southend United FC.

We have been liaising with Ron Martin and Tom Lawrence more so than normal over the last 14 days for obvious reasons and whilst the outcome of the petition was not unexpected, it is clear that clarification of financial commitments for the November payroll and of course the HMRC debt need to be forthcoming immediately and we look forward to hearing from them.

I'm assuming that's all staff, Players, Coaches, Matched day stewards, Kiosk staff, Ticket Office Staff, Behind the Scenese staff, Tea lady (or man) etc etc

We have been liaising with Ron Martin and Tom Lawrence more so than normal over the last 14 days for obvious reasons ....
what are those "obvious reasons" - it often seems to be the only reasons are so that Trust committee members can brag about being in the know when they take up their seats at games.....

Where are the demands for full budgeting projections?
  1. Budget for the season (income)
  2. Average match day income
  3. Playing budget for the season, including present monthly costs
  4. Other staffing costs (monthly)
  5. List of debts, including monthly obligations
The reason people are sick of Stan (with reference to your "fan unity" item in the recent liaison minutes) is that he promised (without it being clear what mandate he had to do so) "integrity and transparency". He has not provided that, let alone be able to.

The accounts are still overdue and without knowing the full cashflow and budgeting situation of the club, we have no idea a] where the money of a club with presently the 5th best home gates, is going and b] how much of our income is needed to satisfy debts with HRMC and others. Are we drastically overspending on players relative to our income and debts, or is money being siphoned off, we can but speculate without actual figures.

Ron has somehow always come through before but I suspect in today's business climate raising a large sum might be a fair bit harder than it was before.

I may be in a minority here but I believe if he could produce the money he would. Without knowing more about why the case was adjourned we should not rush to conclusions but that, I suspect, is a faint hope.

It would be fanciful to believe that either SUFC or Ron can be immune from the problems caused by the bigger economic picture.

Interesting times.

After last night it's although not unexpected news, but still disappointing. Shows what a remarkable miracle the coaching team are doing and we have to continue supporting them and the boys on the pitch.

I doubt Ron will care what the Trust thinks sadly, as he won't engage with anyone. Absolutely shocking excuse of a man ....

It was obvious he wasn't going to pay, he never does. My question to Itk is have players and staff been paid this month? That would impact what's going on the pitch.

Trust quick off the mark with this good to see, we’ll done

It's calling for the calm and wisdom of @StanCollymore to give us any answers to the questions and concerns being raised.

Stan, appreciate you may be in the dark a little but good to put some water on the rapidly spreading fires on here and twitter if you can, where our reputation continues to be tarnished.

Why do we still have a Chairman that is clearly incompetent to run a football club and refuses to engage with his supporters, who happen to be loyal stakeholders pumping the income into his pocket.
