This is what stood out for me. Pretty much says that they've accepted the bids for Hall and Ferdy. IMO, Ferdys replaceable, Hall isn't.

Of course Hall is replaceable. We'll shift from a team that was completely set up for Hall to a team where the burden and attacking is spread more evenly across players. If we bring in a bit of quality to replace him, then that will lessen the blow.

I still maintain that Martin is an adequate replacement for Hall, just needs a run of games to get his confidence up.

Clever footballer with plenty at this level.

Im normally fine with the Echo, I have a lot of respect for Chris Phillips.

What is annoynig in this case is that the other guy posted big news story tomorrow, which in fairness this is, but he also tweeted that CP will be sending blues fans to bed happy.

Unless theres something else thats totally misleading and I wasted 45p on something I already new. Still Ill read the rest of the paper later in an attempt to get my moneys worth, Im sure theres plenty about sheds being broken into that Ill be interested in.

Agree with this - Chris Phillips has done nothing wrong at all, the other fella said it was a big news story - that much is correct. It is the tease about us being sent to bed happy that is annoying. HOWEVER I think people are over-reacting a bit to this.

Maybe it was his use of the word "HUGE" that made us all get our hopes up to think we were signing Akinfenwa!

We did ok without Hall at the weekend but you wont find another player like him. How many players can deliver the quality of asisists he has 2 seasons running? I wonder who will take set pieces now and if they will be anywhere as effective. Kane also has been a key part of our upward curve over the last 18 months. Saying that, plenty of other teams have lost key players, some after only a season or two. Its a natural part of being a small penniless club!

Hall is replaceable, no player in L2 isn't replaceable.

We pumped plenty of crosses into the box on Saturday without Hall. We became to reliant on Hall's assists. I'm sure PS has replacements lines up, they may or may not have that same impact as Hall.

We'll still have Martin and Hurst who are more than capable in L2.

Would it take off

just about

A few teams got wise to Hall being our sole provider last season and stifled us completely. None of our players are irreplaceable and selling Hall and Ferdinand (for the right price) represents a shrewd bit of business considering where they came from and how long we've had them.

So let's move on and hope that Luggy brings in some decent replacements today.

IMO we have a squad of average players, no match winners or anyone who's going to take the match on and try and get us a winning goal. Sure we have Freddy but lets all be honest he's not the player he was plus we have to get fit first in order for him to even be on the pitch. I'm a big fan of Corr's but even I'm getting tired of having a player who can never play because he's injured all the time.

Wht with Hall and Ferdinand on their way out we have a mid table team at the very best. I can see us getting a couple in today but they wion't be anything special I don't think. Hopefully I'm proved wrong and we get 5 brilliant signings but can't see that happening for a second.

For people concerned about the clubs financial plight then this IS good news, so maybe that's what he meant.

It's difficult to actually determine what would be classed as good news to a Southend fan to be honest. Any decent and established player will command a fee and high wages which we can't afford; the players generally within our reach and budget are GENERALLY not the players that are going to propel us up the league and of course we all know we're only really happy when Southend win. It's a bit of a catch 22.

I've said it before I know, but as fans we seriously have no idea at all what goes on. The running of the club really is none of our business (despite massive protestations to the contrary) as the time when football was run for the fans is long, long gone. I have seen various threads recently about non payment of wages again (yawn) but so what? Plenty of firms can't afford to pay their staff on occasion. It's called business. As for Sturrock, I notice TB has heard he allegedly may not have been paid but for all we know (if true) that may well be with his consent. When he first arrived I seem to recall that he himself stated (probably via cluniemore) that he had worked without wages for a period but that wasn't an issue for him at that time.

This is where Sturrock is a real gem and is so underestimated and undervalued by so many. He isn't here for the money and has a 5 year plan to stabilise the club and get us where we should be. He has bought in some terrific talent and has frankly worked miracles given the constraints he has had. His network must be enormous and players clearly have incredible respect for the man.

As for our star players, I think we would all agree that the only players worth money are Hall, Mohsni and Ferdinand. Neither of the first 2 want to be here and Kane would be better in a higher league where his talent will shine and develop. He is anonymous too often in this league.

So, let's cash in please and still have a club to support.

As for incoming players, whoever they may be, I hope PS works his magic again. I'll actually be happy if we've never heard of them as then there will be no expectations. Our most successful signings ever have been in that category; Stan Collymore and Freddy Eastwood.

Bring on the day. Let's get this stuff sorted and celebrate by thumping Wycombe tomorrow.

Good news for me would be nothing to do with players signing and the stadium start date being announced.

With the stories of the construction company hiring staff for a stadium build in 5 weeks and an echo reporter making vague tweets about "happy" news I allowed my hopes to put 2 and 2 together. And in this case 2+2 = broken dream:smile:

As for the actual story, disappointed to lose Hall but we need the money from the sale, especially as we have essentially lost 150k on Mohsni who I assume will be the player going on loan.

With regards to Sturrock being paid Im sure he did agree to work without pay, but that just shows how tight things are and if the sale doesnt go ahead today I think its likely that non payment of salaries will spread to the players sooner rather than later.

Let's face it, Martin won't get us 15+ goals and 20+ assists, who knows what the case may be in 12 hours time as Paul sturrock has pulled these signings off before
