I'm hearing that Brett Angell and Matt Lockwood were seen eating fish & chips on Southend Pier this morning.

Peterborough United bid for Southend United star Ryan Hall....Oh and Kane Ferdinand

PETERBOROUGH United last night lodged a double bid for Southend United stars Ryan Hall and Kane Ferdinand.

"We can only let Hall and Ferdinand go if quality replacements are definitely coming in, and even then, only if the offers are sufficiently large.
Remember what happened when we virtually gave Barnard to Southampton. The entire season collapsed and relegation was achieved, which seemed impossible before he left.
Were the same thing to happen this time, SUFC as we know it would be finished."

Who is this douchebag?

You can see Barry Fry tactics here of trying to buy cheap, then declaring he has signed the new Pele and Messi and they are worth £50 m each. Assuming they go the worry is whether we get a reasonable price and whether we will have time to get replacements in. Let's wait and see. I suspect it will be a roller coaster day. But, in my view, we will be a weaker side by c.o.p. than when we started - assuming this deal goes through.

Let's face it, Martin won't get us 15+ goals and 20+ assists

He won't have to if Hurst and Tomlin can pitch in.

With both players out of contract in a year's time, it makes perfect sense to cash in now. I personally would've preferred to have had this concluded before the season started (we'd be more settled, and could've had Brogan in too) but it's becoming increasingly common for clubs to conduct their transfer business as late as possible. For the pair I'd hope for a fee of around £400k (including installments) with a 25% sell-on for each, as Peterborough will want to have them in to replace their departures.

I really don't expect much of that money to be re-invested into the squad, but it provides us an opportunity to readdress the balance of the squad, which hasn't looked right for a while. Crewe's squad against us was a perfect example of a well balanced team, with threats on either flank, Powell playing deeper than Leitch-Smith when required and an extremely disciplined defensive partnership. Hall's ability is as much a curse as it is a gift, as we became increasingly reliant on him to the point of distraction. We had nothing to counter him on the opposite flank, and ended up sticking Mohsni out there purely to accomodate him.

For people concerned about the clubs financial plight then this IS good news, so maybe that's what he meant.

It's difficult to actually determine what would be classed as good news to a Southend fan to be honest. Any decent and established player will command a fee and high wages which we can't afford; the players generally within our reach and budget are GENERALLY not the players that are going to propel us up the league and of course we all know we're only really happy when Southend win. It's a bit of a catch 22.

I've said it before I know, but as fans we seriously have no idea at all what goes on. The running of the club really is none of our business (despite massive protestations to the contrary) as the time when football was run for the fans is long, long gone. I have seen various threads recently about non payment of wages again (yawn) but so what? Plenty of firms can't afford to pay their staff on occasion. It's called business. As for Sturrock, I notice TB has heard he allegedly may not have been paid but for all we know (if true) that may well be with his consent. When he first arrived I seem to recall that he himself stated (probably via cluniemore) that he had worked without wages for a period but that wasn't an issue for him at that time.

This is where Sturrock is a real gem and is so underestimated and undervalued by so many. He isn't here for the money and has a 5 year plan to stabilise the club and get us where we should be. He has bought in some terrific talent and has frankly worked miracles given the constraints he has had. His network must be enormous and players clearly have incredible respect for the man.

As for our star players, I think we would all agree that the only players worth money are Hall, Mohsni and Ferdinand. Neither of the first 2 want to be here and Kane would be better in a higher league where his talent will shine and develop. He is anonymous too often in this league.

So, let's cash in please and still have a club to support.

As for incoming players, whoever they may be, I hope PS works his magic again. I'll actually be happy if we've never heard of them as then there will be no expectations. Our most successful signings ever have been in that category; Stan Collymore and Freddy Eastwood.

Bring on the day. Let's get this stuff sorted and celebrate by thumping Wycombe tomorrow.

Much as I alluded to yesterday in my 'strange times' thread. When it comes to a choice of having a club without Hall and Ferdinand, or possibly not having a club at all........then the choice is obvious. Perhaps we should have a little caution here, until we hear the words that 'Southend United have accepted the offer', although I think most of us believe that it will happen. With that in mind, it looks as if PS has replacements lined up and I have great faith in his ability to rebuild a team capable of challenging for promotion again. I hope that amongst the new entrants there will be at least one that could develop into a Hall or a Mohsni (with his head screwed on properly). Whilst we don't have (can't afford) a training system that develops lots of eventual talent for the first team, we do have a manager that is capable of spotting, bringing in and nurturing some prospective talent and whilst they don't ALL come off, it's a pleasure when it does happen.
It's just SO stressful that it all happens on the last day of the window and not at the start of July. Now we are obliged to rebuild the side again at the start of the season rather than opening the pre-season and campaign with players, that for the most part, know each others names. I have to say that I'm not totally confident about tomorrow.......hope I'm proved wrong...........I just get the feeling that September may be a very bumpy ride, until we arrive at having a settled side again.

That's an insult. I wouldn't accept less than 500k. 200k isn't going to go very far at our club so we might as well keep them if that's the most we'd get for them.

200k for two players and people think that's fair? That's a championship club trying to bully us, they can jog on !
