This is some team...

GK - Gordon Banks
RB - Pat Rice
DF - Steve Bruce
DF - Stuart Pearce
LB - Gareth Bale
RW - Chris Waddle
CM - Nobby Stiles
CM - Bobby Charlton
LW - George Best
FW - Peter Beardsley
FW - Kevin Keegan

Also, we've had confirmation via Peter Miles on Twitter that Ian Botham played at Roots Hall for Scunthorpe.

I'm sure Glenn Hoddle played against us for Swindon as a sweeper , so surely he can go in ?

Could probably get a decent cricket XI from players who have played against us as I am pretty sure that former first-class cricketers Ted Hemsley and Jim Cumbes would have played against us during their winter employment. Andy Goram too maybe??

Edit: not forgetting Arnie Sidebottom and Chris Marples too.

Lou Macari - when with Swindon and the magnificent left foot of
Frank Worthington - with Tranmere both played at RH in the late 80s

If I recall correctly Hoddle was due to play for Swindon, was named in the starting line up but injured himself in the warm up & didn't make it to the pitch.

The one and only Stanley Bowles, plus Mick Channon, Gerry Francis.....and who can forget Bolton's marauding right-back Phil Brown.

Chris Balderstone England Test player and Carlisle over at the Hall

They are both going in. Upson is a bit of a donkey but he has won over 20 England caps. Bruce somehow never did, but I think his career went quite well! plus he may well have played against us for Gillingham as a youngster.

GK - David James

I can certainly remember seeing him play for the Gills. against us on a couple of occasions before he moved to Norwich.

I have a program for the home game against Scunthorpe
No mention of Kevin Keegan but their no 7 is a bloke called Geegan , I wonder what happened to him
Phil Neal Northampton

Does reserve league count??? If so Rodney Marsh made his comeback after injury for QPR reserves in front of a very large crowd. Think it was 16,000 but could be memory playing tricks!!! He scored the only goal of the game about the only time in the match he showed any interest!!!

Surely, if page 1 of the thread was correct, Rushy should replace Beardsley, great player, but Rushys scoring record beats him hands down for me

Unlike Steve McMahon who did play against us as Swindon player-boss a couple of years later before getting himself sent off.

How many World Cup semi finals did Ian Rush play in?
