Three most disliked players from your times supporting blues and why.

Agree with lots of these but why Gary Jones - Didn't his goals save us from relegation one season (the Steve Thompson one!)

And why Derek Payne too?

Anyone remember Yemi Abiodun (or something like that). Absolutely sensational at running really fast in a straight line. Cack at anything else (like taking the ball with him for example).
Would also have to agree with many other people on here and go for Gordon Conelly & Jeroen Boere.
Someone mentioned Neil Tolson. I actually quite liked him, at least he could hit a ball with some venom.

Eric Steele, Richard Young(both Dick Bate's signings).
Billy Kellock
Trevor Whymark
Mario Walsh
Chris Ramsey
Steve Hatter

We had some star strikers play for us during 1998-99, including:

Steve McGavin
Barry Conlon
Neil Campbell
Neville Roach
Dominic Iorfa
Miguel De Souza
Trevor Fitzpatrick

What a bunch!!

Not forgetting during 1996-97 - Adem Poric, Peter Dursun, John Nielson and Robert Codner.

During 1997-98 - Carl Beeston & George Parris!

And who can forget Petter Belsvik from 1995!

Any half decent striker would have scored a lot more that season. As I remeber telling anyone who would listen just seconds before he scored a peach of a chip against Wolves at home....

He was still rubbish though.

Steve Hatter - worst central defender in the history of the game. Owner of a gay moustache also.

Roy McDonough - apology of a centre-forward, somehow the owner of near 'legend' status at Roots Hall (mind you so is Drewe Broughton). Nicknamed Donut, I can only assume it is a ring doughnut being referred to in this instance, with Roy being the waste of space in the middle.

Mario Walsh - even worse centre-forward than the clown above. Also, like the clown above, ex-Col Ewe with an abject inability to play football.

My 3 are : carl hutchings, crap player with even worse hairstyle
carl emberson , fat crap keeper, can't even thing of one plus to his game.

grahame jones.....as stated by at least 5 others on this thread ..............useless !!!

I have been following the blues sine 1990 and had the fortunate pleasure of missing most of our downfall between 93-98 as had playing commitments myself , so can't comment on any player from that era, so my choice is from 98 onwards as to put anyone in that catergory from 90-93 would be scandalous.

Thats a good one --deserves a new thread methinks

I remember a fantastic goal-line clearance from Walsh. The only trouble was that he cleared the ball of the opponent's goal-line in an attempt to smash the ball into the net!

1) Mark Rawle - The way he left the club was a disgrace.

2) Nathan Jones - Dito.

These are the players that I dislike the most there are obviously far worse footballers, N'Daye, Prudhoe and Dominic Iorfa (however for some reason he used to amuse me possibly because he was so cack or everyone shouting Dominic I awful!)

I can't believe people have voted for Phil Gridelet (OK he was arogant but did OK for us). Also Derek Payne IMO is a legend for knocking out Speedie he was also OK for us, I also thought Scott Houghton was good.

I am shocked so many people have gone for Hutchings. As a Orient Scummer I hated him but i thought he was a pretty tidy player.

And the people that said Clarkey need to have a serious word with themselves. He was a bit inconsistant for sure but I dont think he was ever bad enough to be hated above of about 50 others I care to mention.

Fully agree with that.

Knocked him out?????! He barely touched him with the palm of his hand and Speedie performed an Olympic class dive to the ground!! It didn't even qualify as a bitch-slap!

I'll go for:

1) David Lee - Absolutely pony waste of space. Lived off a good goal vs Brighton. Looked like Gareth from the office and had a totally over-inflated view of his own talent. Ineffectual and lightweight.

2) Danny Webb - Pains me as I loved his dad like a errmmm...dad. Bottom line was with his name on the teamsheet you knew we were going to struggle to score, that he would get booked, go down easily, posture a bit and contribute very little. Celebrated tap-ins like World Cup winning goals. All about nepotism and nothing to do with ability.

3) Drewe Broughton - cost us the tie against Scarborough (and thus 500k and a trip to Stamford Bridge) which everyone forgets when spouting the "took us to Cardiff" myth. Worst shots to goal ratio in Blues history and his tally of two league goals in a season and a half says it all. Missed goals you'd have backed Stevie Wonder to have put away. Always gave 100% which makes it even more embarrassing that he was so poor. Again, attempted to deflect his donkey-esque performances by ar$e-licking the crowd, pumping his fist etc etc.

How dare you use the Lord's name in vain ! A legend.

I thought I'd mention three that hadn't already been covered.

Danny Greaves - Other than the fact that we used to get coverage on Saint and Greavsie he offered bugger all in terms of playing ability.

Frank Lampard - if you can think of every attribute that Goater brought to us for his last season as a pro - turn 180% and add on 500% you'll get somewhere close to my opinion of his time at RH

Jason Cook. Smaller than a pint of milk and much less effective.

Please can I squeeze Phil Whelan in as a 4th !!!!!!!!

The trouble we have is the teams we watched 5-10 years ago were terrible, so some players appeared to be quite good, when infact, they were very, very poo indeed.
Like Ian Selley...I remember him being good. But I think I just thought that because he was Ian Selley. And we finally had signed a player I had heard of. This clearly doesn't make him good.
Anyway, I digress...Cannot agree with Tinkler, I too thought he was good, and Hutchings for that matter. Apart from that there is a wealth of players to choose from.
My top 3 would have to be...
1) Danny Webb. As someone said, nepotism gone mad. Easily the worst cheating and diving little scum bag we've ever had. Spent more time doing his precious hair than practising shooting.
2) Neville Southall. Never has a man cared so little about pulling on a Southend shirt. So much so that training with the rest of the squad was just too much for this lump of lard, so he just turned up for matchdays. Our defensive record whilst this guy was in goal speaks for itself. I shudder to think how much we paid him for the "pleasure" of having such a legend in goal.
3) Michael Ricketts. Nothing much to say here that anyone doesn't know. I was convinced his career was over when he left. To see him pull on Preston's shirt, and even have the cheek to score really does smart. I am equally convinced I will dislike him as much in 5 years time, as I still think if we go down, he will have been a major factor. I never enjoy seeing a player get injured, but I had a little chuckle to myself when he got taken off through injury in their FA Cup tie against Man City. Sicknote living up to his name already, I thought.
I've seen slices of cheese with more desire to play for Southend.
