Three most disliked players from your times supporting blues and why.

I am shocked so many people have gone for Hutchings. As a Orient Scummer I hated him but i thought he was a pretty tidy player.
Dave, you seem to have a typo there. The phrase you're looking for after "I thought he was... " is:

...a greedy bloody mercernary who wasn't nearly half as good as he thought he was.

Have to disagree MtS. I remember him as one of the best players in the squad during that time (admitedly it was a very poor squad) and certainly as someone who always gave 100%. Financially he was "rescued" from a nightmare spell at Exeter hence he took a huge paycut to play for Webby again following a decent run under him at Brentford. I don't think we can begrudge a man with a family who is playing on a week-to-week contract the opportunity to look for the best possible deal and at that time it was highly unlikely to come from us. They were the dark days when Wagman was making veiled threats to pull the plug and Mark Rawle was topping the scoring charts with a Broughton-esque 9 goals....

The players most disliked by me during my time supporting the Blues.
1) Jerome Boere - showed disrespect to us long before we showed it to him.
2) Connelly - displayed nothing for us; no talent, no passion.
3) Southall - never wanted to be here, we never wanted him here.
Seconded. Of course Boere must come top of any self-respecting "most-disliked" poll - the utter disdain he showed for Southend as a club whilst he f***ing played for us, let alone after he left, was little short of staggering.

After him - and most other players are a long way after him - come a whole host of players who really didn't give a toss about the fact that they were playing for our club. And let's not belittle our club - we are permanent members of the league, full members of the league, have over 100 years of history and are the greatest football team the world has ever seen (IMHO).

Other players who couldn't have given a sh*t about whether they were playing for us or not seemed to include (so far as I could tell) -

*Steve Jones ("it's handy for my home in Benfleet... oh f**k off back to Bristol)
*Carl Hutchings (another day, another dollar)
*Gordon Connelly (never wanted to be here, did he?)
*Mark Tinkler (ditto)
*Neville Southall (ditto)
*Carl Emberson (only seemed to get the job through nepotism)
*Graeme Jones (played like he despised us all with a passion)

So, that'll do for a rogues' gallery - with my top 3 being:

1. Boere
2. G. Jones
3. Southall

Hmm - can't say I was ever that impressed. Granted, he always played with a lot of energy, but he used to give possession away like it was going out of fashion. He was an average member of a poor squad, ultimately - I shed no tears when it was he and not Maher who went to Orient.

The family-man bit is a granted, but then are you not asking me to be rational and reasonable about these sorts of things....?!

:p

And breathe........... :p

Martin Carruthers - One decent season then turned into Mr Wonderful with no delivery. Blamed everyone but himself.

Richard Young - Couldn't hit a cow on the ar*e with a banjo.

Mel Capleton - Not fair to say I hate him as a person but as a player, total pony.

I saw Capelton have a great game at Rotherham once when we drew 0-0, not a patch of Flavs tho.

For me one of the players I despaired of the most was a keeper we had called Paul Newell. It was during the late 80's or early 90's can't remember exactly. He was the type of keeper who let the softest goals in.

Certainly not impressed with Mark Rawle at all, he's ended up where he belongs IMO, NON league football.

Certainly pretty much anyone that Little signed would have top go down on the top three of most disliked, although he did bring Tinkler who IMO was an OK player. the fact he went onto Hartlepool and do quite well suggests he wasn'ta total donkey. Probably Connolley seemed to be the worst of a bad batch.
