Threads about Sexual Practices

So now the threesome thread and roughest bird thread have been deleted... this has gone far too far IMO and i reckon that all that is going to happen is that the pub becomes a very quiet place from now on. a vocal minority with varying reasons along with some very heavy-handed moderating has really damaged the pub IMO... i would love to believe that the threads being deleted was a joint decision by the mods and owners... but i really doubt it

:darkcloud:

I didn't delete it, I deleted your bump, which in my opinion, was a reactionary movement to try and get some controversy going....

The owners of this site have been a lot more patient on here today than I would have been.
If people dont like the rules on this site, then te answer is simple-start your own You may even get sponsored by David Sullivan!
I may not agree with everything the owners say and do but I would like to personally thank them for expending their own time and money to give us all a vehicle to even be in a position to discuss these issues.
Well done lads.

Can I also ask the mods, what do they now intend to do with overtly political threads (e.g. the liberal, let them all in do-gooders VS fanatical, English for England arguments that crop up from time to time)?

Surely, topics such as this depending on which side of the political fence you sit could equally be distasteful? I rarely add my express opinion to threads like this, although some on here might like to second guess my own beliefs in this sense. If I've got something valid to add, I usually just rep the person in question either way!

As somebody earlier said, it was just words & not images which could have offended any younger member of the Zone with regards to XXX subject matter, why should some of the fairly extremist beliefs about asylum seekers for example be any different?

Personally feel the pub may was well be renamed The Nursey - "a place where all can feel free to chat as long as its nothing controversial or exciting and your gran can read it."

Suffice to say that while my daughter does use SZ as a member I did not complain about any of the threads. Most I did not read having no real interest to be honest although having no clear indication on the teabagging (not heard that before) one as to what it was about (unlike the others where it was pretty obvious) was perhaps where things went wrong.

I would indeed rather my daughter did not read things like that but I cant really stop her or i could but then she would see none of the content. If she is banned so she cant it would have to be at IP level because people can still read the content of threads as "guests". But then equally she wouldnt be able to read all the other more suitable stuff.

Its not an easy thing to moderate on the site trying to keep unsuitable eyes away from such content indeed most sites just ask for confirmation of being over 18 which is pretty pointless to be honest.

Its not easy and not everyone will be happy with what the mods are doing either way.

**** me!!

I've been completely out of the loop on all of this as I've been busy with work - even the decision to delete the threads - but I'm still amazed by the people's reaction to some of this.

Do people seriously think the owners WANT to delete threads, spoil people's fun, and generally set ourselves up to look like kill-joys?

Personally, I love reading some of the more risqué threads, but at the same time, I can understand the point of view of those who have problems accessing at work. To that end, I fully support the decision to delete even though I didn't get to indulge in a bit of teabag tension.

We're trying to tread a middle line folks that keeps most of the people happy, most of the time. Give us a break eh chaps? When lots of people complain about something, we need to look into it.

Now for me, this seems the best way forward...

That's all that is required. Keep the thread titles clean but indicate if they are unsuitable for various groups.

Is that really that hard to comply with - for everyone's sake?

To whoever suggested it, I'll add an "Over 18" or "Not safe for work" icon for adding to the threads when I get a spare 10 minutes.

I always thought ' South Bank Hank' was rhyming slang for what your favourite past time is ;)

I haven't read all the posts on this topic, but can I make a suggestion? I don't know how easy / cost effective this would be to implement, but make logging in each day a requirement and restrict each log in to content related to that users DOB.

If the mods consider a topic to be unsuitable for minors, they tag it such and therefore it becomes inaccessible to those below 18. Also, such threads would be highlighted so those of an more delicate nature can stay away.

Problem over, everyone's happy and no one has to leave.

Wouldn't work, under age members would just lie when they register about their date of birth.

On an aside, I've registered my disapproval about some threads and voiced my concern off site in pms to others. I didn't have a problem with the "roughest bird thread" per se but objected to some of the language, I did find the "teabagging" one very distasteful and there was absolutely no indication of its content in the thread title. Some of the others I've chuckled over and wondered how much of what is being posted is truth and how much is fantasy! Like I said recently, tolerance prevails in a large majority of cases, but sometimes boundaries get pushed a little too far.

The mods do a fantastic job, cut them some slack. If you want to have these sort of chats then go in the chat room.

so perhaps the mods could have just changed the title of the "bun fum" thread instead of hitting the delete button!?

as i've said more than once on this thread... i think the sensible move, as the mods and as Mad Cyril said, keep your thread titles clean and warn people about their contents... then as long as it abide by the rules then there is no need to delete them. surely!?

Hee hee, I am sure that one was used in the last perceived contentious decision by the Mods.

Regarding the Pub forum being the same as a real life pub then I am looking forward to the day when people go into a pub and stick up post-it notes so all can see your conversation long after you have discussed something with your mates.

A more than fair post except for the chat room but which clearly wouldnt work.

Would also like to add that if I was a x year old teenage looking to feast my eyes upon some smut then I can think of a million better places to go than Shrimperzone....

I think its more to do with those who arent looking for the smut tho but who inadvertantly come across it in the pub forum thats the issue.

Better thread titles are the way forward seems to be the concensus. Maybe those that complained could be asked if this would be a sufficient compromise?
