SUFC: The Future The regeneration of Roots Hall

Our hopes and visions for the rebirth of Southend United, plus any plans published by the consortium for discussion
This thread is so intetesting.
I'm sure the players would like a socialising area where post match they can be closer to family and fans post match. Walsall as an example.
Question for you Sherif H. Is it possible to lower the pitch significantly and would this help the restricted views of the South and West stands and resolve the drop off around the North East side of the pitch.
Looking at your initial drawings it also occurred to me that the North East quadrant could provide a covered coach reception area for away teams
Funnily enough some of the Oxford squad and management team ended up in the Far post bar after the match.

But back on topic so glad we're revamping the old girl rather than a new stadium out of town!

I've not seen any trouble, plenty of noise, but not a punch in sight, not even Millwall, though I tend to stay in when that fixture comes around
Was surprised by how light the segregation divider was at Carrow Road a few weeks back when Millwall were in town.

Not a better man on the planet to have involved in the sprucing up of the old girl. I look forward to hearing and seeing the plans for the place in due course.

I also hope consideration will be given to returning the North Bank to home fans, safe standing ideally. With better sight lines and improved facilities, a packed North Bank will be worth a number of points over a season.

See the video from the Oxford City manager post match below, who suggested his players didn't cope with the atmosphere at all well on Tuesday. Having the NB back IMO is well worth the outlay as it will cause many other teams to fold under the atmosphere. Especially at this level!

Just got to love the Roots Hall roar and the NB would intensify that .

Safe standing reminds me of the soulless modern grounds. I prefer how it is now and just standing
It's literally a bar with a seat that can be locked in position. It's no different to terracing except you have a better control on numbers in the area.

I'd sooner a dedicated safe standing area than persistent standing from someone a few rows in front in a seated area

I’m probably wrong in my thinking to be fair. My brain just connects safe standing with a lot of stadiums I hate. Anyway all I want is the north bank back, if it’s split between us and away fans then so be it. (That’ll just improve the atmosphere even more)

Well if you want standing section in the Football League I think it would have to be a safe standing section. I don't like standing but would be more open to using a safe standing area if it was there

I’d give a kidney to be back in the North so I’d definitely take safe standing 😂

Cantilever stand roofs all round the ground to get rid of the limited-view seating behind pillars. In the East Stand (in the Greens at least) there is the ridiculous system of going through the turnstiles, then down some steps, then across the bridge then up some steps then down the steps in the stand to get to your seat. It is no good if you have mobility issues and can be dangerous for those individuals when leaving the ground with a rush of people behind them. Level access needed to both main stands, at least, for those with mobility issues (and carers) and alternative entrance/exit facilities into the stands for the mobile. I'd extend the East Stand back to the wire fence between it and the car park to give potential space for a relocated Far Post/Shrimpers bar and potentially increase capacity for boxes as a result. Only Home fans to occupy East, West and North stands. Away fans get the Upper Tier of the South Stand with the lower left empty unless ticket demand dictated a need for its use by massive Home support. In that case, Away fans go Lower and Blues get top tier. Suitable screening to protect away fans from rocket attack obviously. Sounds solid to me and I've got a builder mate who'll do the lot for eight and a half grand (and he'll tarmac the car par park AND check for any roof damage and overgrown trees!!) In the past I would have written to my favourite Radio One DJ and he would have Fixed It for me, but he seems to have dropped off the radar. Oh yeah, and Nick Alliker and Chris Philips to get a new luxury media suite.

@Sherif H Is there anything that can be done in the short/medium term that could improve the income streams to the club at Roots Hall? Especially on non match days?

So can us having the North Bank back be revisited? I know the argument over the years has always been access for away teams for coaches! We've been to many grounds over the past few years and this is never an issue for other teams. Make the North Bank the home end with Safe Standing! The away fans can be put in a different part of the ground like South Lower? Or Blue Red and Yellow Sections of East Stand!

Would it be possible to remove the wall from X/W but leave the pillars in. The simple fact there’s a wall there in my mind makes it seems detached and yea it is annoying when you want to sit down for a few minutes in V but theres 8. Rows of bods standing in a seated block

Something that can be done to smarten up Roots Hall instantly not gonna be everyone's cup of tea but I think we should allow Graffiti artists like around town to brighten the place up! They can do Southend United themed art all round the ground! Some more than likely would do it for free or just a donation towards the materials!
