The NBA Thread...

He's only 23 so he is going to have plenty of chances over the next 10-15 years to win a championship.

I just don't think he'll leave the Cav's though... Even if they didn't win the draft lottery that year his destination was always going to be Cleveland, it's his home.

I know he's got the best part of 15 years to win a championship, but it must hurt to know that his best chance of winning something will be away from Cleveland. KG isn't getting any older and neither is Ray Allen, them two leaving will free up an awful lot of space in the wage cap...
I know it's been talked about in the past, and I personally can't see it happening in a million years, but i'd love to see him and Pierce in the same team.

I just think that eventually the Cavs will be able to build a strong team around him. With any salary cap sport no one team is overly weak for very long unless the team suffers from poor management and/or bad luck for an extended period of time (like the Clippers). If you take Lebron out of the equation there is no way that the Cavs are a playoff team, but that fact that one player can make that much difference means that he doesn't need to be on the floor with three or four other all stars to have a shot at a title. There are so few players that have had that kind of impact on a team, for example Pierce was never able to do it before KG and Allen came along. Lebron only needs a slight upgrade to his supporting cast to have a real chance.

Also, if a title does evade him until late in his career, I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave Cleveland. A great but aging player almost always has support of his fans if he tries to go elsewhere to capture his first ring.

Celtics lose Game 2, first loss at home and now they have to do something they haven't done in the Play-Offs yet, Win away from home.

A couple of rumours that are coming out is that:

a) Derrick Rose could be taken by the Bulls and traded to the Lakers... Would realistically see the Lakers have the strongest squad in the NBA and would make sense considering Rose is an LA Native.

b) If Bulls do take Rose, then Miami may well sell their pick...

Interesting, have you heard anything about who the Lakers would trade to Chicago in return for Rose?

No it didn't say, although the part about him being an LA Native isn't true at all, he was born and raised in Illinois....

Very excited about the Finals now, Celtics seemed to have conquered there away nerves and it's undoubtedly the two best teams in the league going against eachother.

Really looking forward to the Finals. I started getting in to basketball towards the end of the Magic/Larry Bird era and as such Lakers vs Celtics feels like the ultimate contest.

The always excellent Bill Simmons has done a cracking and totally biased piece about the series in his latest column for ESPN.

Aye... it's a bit of a shame for LBJ as I genuinely think he could go down as the single best player of the NBA to win nothing in his career.

Who gets that 'accolade' currently? Karl Malone and Charles Barkley would be the two leading contenders I assume. We'll leave KG out as he's still got time.

That was annoying. Sky Plussed the game overnight and got up at 6am (I'm normally up about 7:30am) to watch the last couple of quarters. Recording ends with about eight minutes of game time left :madman:

Oh well, glad the Tics won at least and saw a fair bit of the game anyway. Well done Mr Pierce.

I had no Idea Five had coverage of every NBA Finals game... I thought they were only allowed to show games on Tuesday nights because of that particular American broadcaster.

Just watched the Top 5 Plays of the game, How good was KG's monster dunk over Gasol?

After the Lakers nearly came back to win game 2, I can definitely see this series going back to Boston for game 6 with the Lakers up 3 games to 2.

What. A. Second. Half.

Thank god I don't have work tomorrow, Because safe to say I won't be in having watched tonights game.

Well... I guess it's all set up for Boston win the C'ship in Boston... Sky Sports have been making a big issue over Kobe getting 25 points, but they fail to note that he scored 15 in the first quarter, was pretty much anonymous throughout the other 3 and at one point was posting below average figures...

Paul Pierce on the other hand. I'd have his children.

Unbelieveable. I've never seen a Lakers team be completely out worked and out classed like they have been tonight, They're already beaten. and it's only half way through the 3rd Quarter. You can see just how much they want this.

This has got to be the single most embarassing, humiliating and dominant result in play-off history... Ray Allen sunk 8 consecutive 3 pointers before coming off, and now the C's have a massive 38 point lead.
