Slightly off topic BUT it ought to be possible to chew over issues without dreaming blue or red rhetoric.
The social issues from the last 2 years must be incalculable.
I have friends who have never seen, in the flesh, their 2 year old newest grand daughter in Brisbane.
University life has changed, students will have their freshers years now? And all the other travel, gap year stuff?

When people don't see stuff as blue and red and can come to a compromise over stuff that shouldn't be politicised then this could be a conversation to have.

However everything is made so polarising nowadays that it sadly doesn't seem possible.

Playing politics with people's health, mental wellbeing, fitness, education etc is nothing but the status quo now and for the foreseeable future. I for one find it sad and exhausting.

people's health, wellbeing, education etc literally are politics. Just because you want to ignore it or don't want to talk about it doesn't change that fact. We've gone through 2 years where we've had a right-wing government completely supported and backed by a centre-right opposition. The discussion might be polarised but the actual politics we've lived through have been any but, our government has a majority and has an opposition and mainstream media who are happy with that.

My point was there are things that shouldn't be points of political discussion but rather points of universal agreement/discussion.

We've shifted so far that the 'basics' we could all agree on are now being argued about, as you imply in your response claiming it's all 'politics'.

Not having a go at you at all, for you can make your own judgements, that's your freedom and your right.

But this is exactly why mods are treading on eggshells constantly. Everything is becoming political.

Glad it's over, but must admit feeling a bit 'what the hell was that all about?' Hardly reported in the press now it seems. Did we have the right approach, will we do things differently? Did we really have to throw the economy on the bonfire? There was people on the radio today moaning about raising of restrictions and say it's too soon. All I can say is some people love a lockdown!
The problem is it's not over. While hospital admissions have fallen, which is encouraging obviously, Covid remains rife across the UK, particularly in the north at the moment, and this variant, while not as potent as others, is the most transmissible.

In the past month, three of my family have either had it or got it (two in London, one in Northumbria), two extended family members have got it (both in Austria) and one of my aunts in Finland has it.

The idea of the restrictions were/are to keep the variant under relative control (no pun intended!). Easing restrictions and reducing testing facilities and equipment will undo all this and I don't think it will benefit anyone as it stands. Symptoms may be milder but from what I've seen, it's still potent enough to cause sickness and days off work, and if it spreads through companies productivity inevitably suffers.

We got it wrong from the start; too much complacency and not enough preparation. My better half called it in January (2020) after it reached her native Israel so no excuses for us. I'd like to think we'll be in a better position to justify the dropping of restrictions at some point but as far as I'm concerned we're not there yet.

...with exceptions (edited for accuracy, as they say!)

Oh, I don't know...I can think of one person. :Winking2:

Tricky, isn't it?
Health decisions have become patently that!

@Kris I believe I understand your points and I also agree with them. And at the same time I can also understand the ending of the measures.
There has to be an end point, a finishing line, and there isn't going to be one with variations and mutations.
Some honesty on the situation would clarify issues, it is a big, frightening world but truth and transparency should be top of most lists on answering.
Best wishes to your family for 100% recovery.

We are now coming up for 2 years and everything you were told has completely changed.

The most basic rules of any investigation have not been answered. Many are silenced or to afraid to ask the right questions...Who, what, where, when, how, why?

Its not puppets dressed in blue or red you should look at. Those of us who are awake focus on the people who pull the strings.

...and the answer to the question is...?
