The Goat

Wiggy, that's the worst mis-spelling of Eastwood I've seen to date.
laugh.gif

I think the jury's out on this one. I think your view is too extreme but I'm not convinced we're seeing the benefit of his experience being demonstrated by the other forwards. It's not easy coming back from injury at that age and even harder if he isn't getting 90 minutes under his belt.

With Gray out he now gets his chance. He would be a perfect foil for Eastwood IF Eastwood decided to become a striker rather than an attacking midfielder. Just to see him gamble on a flick on would be a good start.

Quote[/b] (Hong Kong Blue @ Feb. 01 2006,00:35)]Got to say I wasn´t impressed with Goater being injured just in time for 6 weeks Christmas holidays in Bermuda, at the coldest and busiest time of the year in the UK.

That is exactly the thing I was concerned with when we signed a 30plus striker, looking to wind down his career.

Having said that, I think when he has played, he has looked a useful foil for Freddy, but has offered little goal threat himself.

I´d say the jury was very much still out on him.
In a complete break with tradition... I find myself agreeing 100% with my learned friend.

I don't think the Goat being injured has helped; but from an extremely bright start in September and October (when I thought the Goat was a goal-threat and a clear asset to the side - some of his through balls to the likes of Lawson, Freddy or Gray were superb), he has gone to zilch in terms of end product. Being injured hasn't helped... but then he has been injured for the best part of 3 months.

That's not really acceptable. Anyone other than the Goat and we'd be furious with them; well, it's time for the Goat to cease trading on the affection that we clearly (and rightly) have for him, and time for him to get match-fit in a hurry, and to start banging the goals in again.

I'm not prepared yet to accept wiggy's doom and gloom - because she is always wont to see the worst in just about any player or situation (except Darryl, of course).

But the Goat needs to start producing the goods, and needs to start doing it now.

Incidentally, I also think wiggy is spot on about Jimmy Aggrey. What the hell were we doing, giving him a run out with the Stiffs? Aggrey must be (along with Abdou Sall) one of the most monstrously inept centre halves I've ever seen at Roots Hall. We didn't need to see him playing for the Stiffs to work that one out, for heaven's sake.

If we were so desperately in need of a body to make up the numbers, why not give a local up-and-coming non-league player the chance of a trial? What possible benefit were we going to derive from giving Aggrey a run-out?

As for Eagle - well, I've explained that position to wiggy already, and she has chosen not to come back to me on that, which I presume means she has no answer to it...

P.S. Been busy at work of late, HKB? You've not been on here much recently...

Give it a rest, Tone. Freddy hasn't gone, and I'm afraid that on this one - you're wrong.

End of, really.

wiggy, being the voice of dissent is one thing. Being the little boy who cried wolf all the bloody time is quite another.

Once you've seen Bradbury perform half a dozen times, and/or once you have managed a football league side to the top of League One, then we might give your opinion a little credence.

Otherwise, you'll forgive us if we think that, more often than not, you are utterly full of sh*t.

Thanks.

If the phrase your only as good as your last game is to be put into this arguement then the Goat has lost hands down.
The last 3-4 games i have seen the goat play have been very poor indeed, for one he is not that strong on the ball, two he doesn't chase balls down or hurry defenders and three he doesn't look much of a threat in the box anymore.

The fact that he adds experience to the team and he probably is a good motivator and leader is a plus, but i want a striker playing for the club that is hungary and is willing to put that extra 10% in for the sake of the team.

I believe the show's producers wanted someone without a moustache.

Incidentally wiggy, how much does Goater earn exactly?

I'm sure I saw that Puskas was on his last legs.

I happen to value fans opinion whoever they are, they have seen the player 50 or so times. We would give an unbiased appraisal of a player if he left us i.e Drewe Broughton, very enthusiastic, keen , claps a lot, not much ability, can't hit a cow's arse, an informative guide in my opinion!

That doesn't wash, though. Look at any of the following:

* Andy Rammell... cr@p for us, couldn't stop scoring for Walsall.

* Luke Guttridge... stroppy bloke in Cambridge's reserves; runs the show in midfield for us.

* Graeme Jones... "20 goal a season man" and Wigan legend... you get the picture.

Besides, since when have you listened to anyone's opinion other than your own...? Don't give us that bullsh*t. If, after half a dozen games, he turns out to be sh*te, by all means come back on here and say "told you so" and slag Tilly off.

Until then, button it and give the man a bloody chance.

Will be delighted if Oxo fans are not as good judges as those from Reading and Swindon!

Generally fans are not good judges, they are normally so biased in favour of the players they like they won't recognise faults. Likewise in players they dislike they will not recognise their strengths.

Bit like you really Wiggy.

1500 quid a week, far too much for a slow, non tackling, injury prone ex superstar!

Interestingly, knowing what Bramble was on for his two year contract, I think we are getting far better value for money from the Goat just by his presence at the club and being a 'good egg' so to speak

That depends on how much Dudfield and Constantine were paid I guess - what were they picking up (just so I can compare)??

Connie was reputedly on £500 a week plus goal bonus. He wanted parity with Drrroooo, whom I believe was on £900-950 a week.

As for Dudders... erm, dunno.

Forgive me for asking, but how is it that everyone bar me seems to know how much the players earn?

Incidentally, if that figure is correct, I would say it was good business at the time. My guess would have been 3-4K.
