The Goat

Not a great fan of Wayne Gray, actually think he is of  a league 2 standard but give me his workrate and pace anyday over that overpaid luxury that needs feeding, but hey lets just say he is great to have about the place so that's o.k!
Can you HONESTLY say wiggy that you can't see what the Goat brings to Southend United ON the pitch?

Hey I'm all for the "everyone's entitled to their own opinion" but I'd have to seriously question your judgement on this one.

Aside from everything else does anyone else think that Freddy looks much more threatening alongside the Goat than he does with Gray?

P.S. wiggy you call the Goat an "overpaid luxury" but I think you'd be surprised to know just how much he is earning compared to certain others, its less than you think.....

Effectively, BBB, you are saying that our 8 straight wins were achieved with only 10 men because Goater is deadweight? I will take a lot of convincing of that. Try looking at the goal he scored against Walsall... evidence there of both a superior footballing brain, and the skill to back it up.

But your missing my point. Granted, he has scored the occasional good goal but far to infrequently. It's not just the goals though, In the majority of games in which i have seen him play, he has looked way off the pace and reluctant to get involved. Dont get me wrong, i was as excited as the next fan when we signed him but alas, he does look a spent force and lets face it, an expensive substitute.

I think you are missing my point, though. Contributing isn't necesarily about scoring. Even if he didn't score every game in the straight-eight, we wouldn't have won 8 in a row while effectively carrying a player. I agree that at times he has looked off the pace and reluctant to get involved - I was calling for him to be subbed against Barnsley (but didn't he then win our pen?) but we have been given a reason for that - a damaged collarbone. If he is fully recovered from that, then I would expect to see a revitalised Goat in the next few games - but in my opinion, he has already proved his worth to the side.

Mr Kilt, OK, On your observations, I'm prepared to give him the benifit of my doubt for now but i have to say that there appears to be worrying similarities between our experience and that of the reading fans.

I accept that.... Time will tell, until then Trust Tilly! Anyway, now that Lee Bradbury has signed we have a NEW Ex-Man City player (who is out of favour because it will cost his current club a fortune to play him for one more game) striker to mull over!

Lee who?? Anyway, as a former golfer who has played with Tilley (and seen him take a dubious drop!) I find it difficult to trust him! However, for the sake of anglo/sweaty relationships, I am prepared to overlook this matter until the 6 nations championships are well and truly over!

What is it about Golf and Angling that leads to the complete abandonment of honourable behaviour?

In a word.....pride

Got to say I wasn´t impressed with Goater being injured just in time for 6 weeks Christmas holidays in Bermuda, at the coldest and busiest time of the year in the UK.

That is exactly the thing I was concerned with when we signed a 30plus striker, looking to wind down his career.

Having said that, I think when he has played, he has looked a useful foil for Freddy, but has offered little goal threat himself.

I´d say the jury was very much still out on him.

i thought the goat was one of our better performers today and got stronger throughout-maybe lacks a bit of sharpness at present.
good to see cole and smithy have a few decent moments.smith-good 1st half,sh!t 2nd really.. nice to see maher and gower in attendance, lording it in the blue seats!

Without wanting to be controversial and without wanting to ever agree with Wiggy I think the Goat is crap.

He ables around like a old man, he isnt as strong physically or in the air as I had hoped and I personally preffered both Dudfield and Tes to him. I just can see what he adds to the team and bar the Col******r game ( And I have only missed 5 all season) I think he is the clear weak link in out team)

He has done wonders for raising the profile of the club but personally looks to me like a player well past his best.

I await a torrent of abuse.

Sings: Are you Wiggy in Disguise?

Gotta say though, i agree with you. He looks sluggish every time i see him! I just don't see the hunger in him. Feed him....

Don't worry all, got a replacement in, Lee Bradbury a good midfielder and totally paceless, hopeless striker< Oxford fans forum> they should know as did the Reading fans!

Ah what a surprise, the ink's not even dry on the contract and already wiggy's slating Bradbury!!!!

I gotta say wiggy you have to be the most NEGATIVE person I've ever known!!! I think the BBC made a big mistake giving Victor Meldrew to Richard Wilson - wiggy would've been perfect for the role

Well, he must be dedicated to fly back and forth from Bermuda to Roots Hall for match days. He was sitting behind us in the East for the MK Dons game!

The reason we sign Goater, because he know what this division is all about & also lift the dressing room. Any promoted club come to this level with the same team include 1 player signed from non-league level would go straight back down, but we did more than that. Goater did more on training ground than you think, I thought he a good signing myself.

Give him some support at Yeovil, Iam looking forward to see him back as we are creating chances & getting cross in more.

His presence on the Training ground is a good point if he is fit enough to be there! Lets face it, if he's fit enough he more often than not plays. It's on the pitch that the fans judge on someone being a success or failure, not on the training ground.
