For someone who isn't 100% on all this political stuff. Now Cameron has resigned how is a replacement sourced? I take it that it won't go to an election? Is it a similar situation to when Blair left and Brown took over?

Yes. It was the same when the tories got rid of Thatcher in favour of Major.

But under what circumstance might a GE be forced? Could a majority of Tory Party members place a vote of no confidence in everyone who stands for the leadership, or do they have to choose one of them? I mean, even if they force a GE they'll need a leader at some point won't they.

I want to hear from our election specialiist based in Spain. Communication seems to have gone rather quite.

I'm not an election specialist but I am from just the other side of the Pyrénées. Barna, probably like myself, is in a state of shock and seeking to make some sense of what has taken place.
My initial thoughts, which may have to be modified with events, are these. The fact that the UK finds itself in a different position this morning is not my primary concern, it is where the EU goes from here. The implications of last nights decision will have enormous repercussions on the EU and two things will need to be done. Firstly, root and branch changes will be required to the whole structure, the message the vote has sent to Brussels will be ignored at their deepest peril. It needs to look profoundly at itself and make its institutions more accountable and relevant to its people. Ironically, the departure of the UK could bring about many of the changes Brexiters wished for. Secondly, and it saddens me to say this, the divorce will need to be as disadvantageous as possible for the UK, the seperation must be long and ugly. For that there is no choice, even if it is cutting our nose to spite our face. In no way can the UK's departure be made easy and beneficial otherwise we risk others lining up at the exit door........I hear Le Pen is already demanding a referendum in France. As a consequence of the referendum result, the last thing I want to see is Marine Le Pen becoming President Le Pen in France next year.

Yeah its not a great situation, like when Major and Brown took over, but thats the system, whilst people might feel they vote for the man in charge what they are voting for is their local MP

You are in no position to dictate to us. We will be telling the EU exactly what we want, as you can when we spend £68 Billion more with you, than you with us.

Just consider this, what if we had a ban on European travel for just 1 year. Lets make everyone have a UK holiday fro 12 months. The likes of Spain would be bankrupt. The following year you would beg on your knees for us Brits to return.

Anyway you have other things to worry about. Who will pay our £10billion contribution to the EU. Indeed I think the EU will be finished within five years. We have made absolutely the right decision as we are first out.

But thats a totally impossible scenario so irrelevant.

I think you over estimate our negotiating position. We will be lucky to even keep Britain together whilst trying to negotiate.

So was leaving the EU 24 hours ago.

German car manufacturers have already announced this morning they want to get a trade deal completed ASAP. The Germans know a thing or two about how to do business. Do you really think they want to risk the sale of nearly 1 million cars a year in Briton.

Project fear will now be shown up for what it always was, a great lie sold by lazy politicians to some gullible people.

Morning Tangled, how was the Remain party last night. Looks like you had a nice lie-in

On Yogi's side of the Pyreenes in France.Today is a public holiday in Catalonia-Sant Joan.

When I went to bed at 11.30pm (here) the BBC you quoting a YouGov survey giving Remain a 52% lead.:omg:

If you really want to believe that you can leave the club, pay no further contributions, yet maintain exactly the same trading advantages, that's your problem. Whilst of course I wish to see trade continue between us, it will be on different terms. At the same time, for the reasons I explained earlier, the UE's task is to keep the show on the road, following the departure of one leading members. If we show to other states, they can have the same advantages without the committment we will be screwed anyway.
