The EU Referendum

How are you voting?

  • Leave

    Votes: 58 56.3%
  • Remain

    Votes: 45 43.7%

  • Total voters
    103
  • Poll closed .
Or to put it another way, 'Project Fear' will win the day.
Tho Boris was saying that Hitler's work was being carried out by the EU, and the main financial figures used by Leave are the £350m payment so presumably they want to create fear that our rebate will end, and they create fear of us being swamped with immigrants when at its highest it only adds 0.5% to the population (and only half of those are from the EU), so......

From what I have been hearing it's been project fear verses project fear

Absolutely. However I fully expected project fear from many in the Leave camp as it was likely to be their best angle. Remain's campaign should have been based on the positives of staying in the EU, but I don't think I've heard Cameron or Osborne give one single positive reason why I should vote Remain.

Me neither, but I've never heard them say anything on anything that was persuasive. My vote is despite the scaremongering of Cameron/Osborne and Johnson/Gove. A pox on all their houses.

Having now watched the video, it has been made by a guy who specializes in EU law and has advised our government on it.

As for the video itself, I didn't find it particularly helpful from either a remain or leave perspective, and fairly disingenuous at times.

Maybe I had too high an expectation, and was expecting the holy grail to be delivered.

There are also a couple of points in the video where you think I'm not sure about that....I imagine there is a very good reason that Remain have not used this video and that is that it can possibly be discredited.

What did you find fairly disingenuous about it?

But nice of you to acknowledge that the Remain camp has scruples and wouldn't put something out if they thought it might be wrong.

27 governments feel that it is right to be part of a European Union, why are we so reluctant? Hopefully there will one day be a United States of Europe with peace and prosperity for all of the nations. The EU is not perfect but Germany thrives, why can't we do the same? Vote Remain tomorrow and stop the likes of UKIP and others with their prejudices from gaining success.

Not at all. If you vote "out" you have to look at you're getting in bed with. Baroness Warsi didn't like what she saw and jumped ship.

Crap. If the best arguments the remain campaign can come up with are "We know the EU is rubbish but it might be worse if we come out" then bollocks to them. I've been waiting for years to kick Tony Blair and the political classes hard in the midriff and I ain't missing out. You can throw about your racist accusations all you want - it only makes me more determined to vote OUT.

You might want to re-read my original post in reply to SB. I never accused anyone of racism.

You're kicking no one in the midriff - the career politicians of Nigel Farage, Michael Gove and Boris Johnson are your shining lights.

Please don't misquote me, I haven't said he is wrong I said it is possible that he could be discredited.

As for the scruples of this campaign, they have been absent on both sides.

In terms of what I found disingenuous, and perhaps with your legally trained mind you can help me here...was the part about Sovereignty (you will need to keep it fairly simple though I'm afraid).

If we are truly Sovereign...then can Brussels make our Laws?...and the European court implement despite the wishes of Parliament and those who elected it?

The Professor is very clear in stating that the EU is not sovereign, and yet goes onto say that part of belonging means we give away power and decision making to it.

In simple terms and correct me if I'm wrong (despite legal theory), the EU Commission propose Law (they are appointed not elected), and those laws then goes to the European parliament who can amend, pass or decline accordingly?

This has become the last desperate attempt by the remain camp. To vote out does not mean a vote for Nigel Farage or Boris Johnson tomorrow. Whatever the result, your new mates Cameron and George will still be in power.

You can vote out and have a Labour Government within a year if we want. Shame old Jeremy and the rest of you socialists never stuck to your principles of anti-big business and anti-EU. What you have done is gifted the next GE to Boris.

Shame because of JC's performance during the last few months Labour are no longer a credible opposition, which is bad for the country. Still can't believe how easily the Tories have mugged you all off. In or out they are the absolute winners of this referendum.

Thats because the media have focussed on how the Tory party is ripping itself apart. If we "remain" the blood letting will be interesting viewing indeed.

That will all be forgotten in six months. Modern politics is all about who is your leader, absolutely nothing else matters. The Tory spats will be over but Labour will still have dear old Jeremy.

If you don't believe me just look at Nick Clegg, even her Ladyship voted for him when sounded all very nice in 2010. Five years later after appearing to be Cameron's wimpy little fag he had single-handedly nearly made the Liberals extinct.

If you genuinely think you can attack the political classes by voting Leave (or Remain for that matter) then you have been paying very little attention to who is involved. Both sides are the political classes, it's two disparate group of MPs.
