The Essex CCC Thread

They have a target to go for if they can keep it up. Harry probably remembers the lower order partnerships.

Highest Partnership for Each Wicket for Essex
1 316 GA Gooch & PJ Prichard v Kent County Ground, Chelmsford 1994
2 403 GA Gooch & PJ Prichard v Leicestershire County Ground, Chelmsford 1990
3 347* ME Waugh & N Hussain v Lancashire Valentine's Park, Ilford 1992
4 314 Saleem Malik & N Hussain v Surrey The Foster's Oval, Kennington 1991
5 316 N Hussain & MA Garnham v Leicestershire Grace Road, Leicester 1991
6 206 JWHT Douglas & J O'Connor v Gloucestershire College Ground, Cheltenham 1923
6 206 BR Knight & RAG Luckin v Middlesex Old County Ground, Brentwood 1962
7 261 JWHT Douglas & JR Freeman v Lancashire County Ground, Leyton 1914
8 263 DR Wilcox & RM Taylor v Warwickshire Southchurch Park, Southend-on-Sea 1946
9 251 JWHT Douglas & SN Hare v Derbyshire County Ground, Leyton 1921
10 218 FH Vigar & TPB Smith v Derbyshire Queen's Park, Chesterfield 1947

You forgot Davies & Mustard.

Stewart was a better batsman than all three, it will be interested to see how Kieswetter develops. I believe that Yorkshire have high hopes of Jonathon Bairstow son of the late David.

Latest 325/4

Davies and Mustard offer different strengths to Foster and I think it is a legitimate enough decision to decide to go down that direction.

Stewart was a class bat, but I have high hopes of Prior.

I've heard Bairstow's keeping isn't anything special and some are suggesting he should concentrate on batting.

Every time I see the list of our highest stands for each wicket, it reminds me of what a golden period the early 90s was. It's some feat to set the record for each of the top 5 wicket partnerships in a 5 year period.

Fair play, I accept Fozzie is tough enough. It is then just a delightful surprise to find out that he is also polite, humble and down-to-earth - he was all of those things when I interviewed him before the MCC v. Champion County game last year.

330/4 now, albeit at (still) a very slow scoring rate - 2.75 an over. We really ought to pick that rate up at some point if we're going to have the chance to try and skittle them out twice, oughtn't we?

I would imagine the plan is for these 2 to try to bat until lunch-time, and then unleash RtD and Napes this afternoon, before declaring somewhere around tea-time with 450 on the board.

Edit - I'm surprised Blackwell has only bowled 10 overs out of 121...

Fozzie gets 150 and the partnership record is broken.

What a shame Foster only scores runs in Division 2. Oh...

Fozzie has really stepped on the gas - 47 off the last 10 overs, including 10 off Blackwell's last over!

315 partnership... 1 away from equalling, and 2 away from setting, the Essex record for the 5th wicket. A stunning performance against the reigning champions on their own patch!

Woo hoo! Normally when I point out a stat that could be broken, my Jonah tendencies usually come into play and everything goes wrong. A phenomenal effort from these two.

Mickleburgh has increased his FC career average by 10 now! Has he shown much promise before? I see he played for England U-19's, be nice to have a player suddenly blossom into a decent bat for us.

4 first class 50's from 16 innings with a top score of 72 is his career record before this match. I believe both he, Westley & Wheater are highly rated at Chelmsford.

He has been thought of quite highly and had a few promising knocks for us. I see he has only scored 58 runs in boundaries in this innings....that is a lot of running he has done.

We have probably scored too slowly to force a win, but is a great innings for our confidence and a decent start to Div one.
