Just a quick question to the Brown out brigade? Who could or would want come in to Southend United, an average squad at best for League 2, players who don't get paid, club under embargo

Someone looking to get their foot in the managerial door. There are only 92 managerial jobs in the Football League and a hell of a lot more wannabe managers. I'd look at non-league for someone looking for the step up to the Football League, who is use to working on a shoe-string budget. I'd look at people looking for their big break, people who aren't necessarily names but who have put the hard graft in in the background (reserve team and youth team) and are looking for the opportunity to be the main man. Someone who has a track record of developing young, cheap players.

The main point, I want someone who is here for the long haul, who can build something. I don't want someone passing through with only an eye for the short term, who will sign up players for his system who we can't then shift in 6 months time when he's moved on.

It's going to be a gamble, but if I'm taking that gamble I want there to be an upside. I don't see a long term upside with the current incumbent because the first sign of success and he's off.

Brown has brought in a few decent players. But team selection, tactics and visible man management is appalling.

Really?

What selection on Friday was was wrong? Id have left Straker out as Im not a fan, but I dont have a problem with the side he picked, and tactics again cant complain about as the football is better.

Man management, well he got more out of Freddy so lets give him that credit, but obivously with the media he has made a total pigs ear of it.

Im disappointed with results but its hard to put a finger on what is going wrong at moment.

Sometimes it's about luck and confidence, the ability to win even when a team is playing below it's capabilities. I still think we need a brutal, experienced central defender and a forward along the lines of Roy Mcdonough. Not necessarily better players technique wise, but ones that will 'do it' week in week out.

It's fairly easy to see what's wrong. We don't enough quality players to push for promotion.

Brown hasn't been given anywhere near the budget to bring in players good enough to. Sturrock had a way bigger budget the season we made the playoffs and last season.

Our league place is roughly where I'd guess we would be without being to bring in more quality so therefore I don't think that Brown is doing a bad job. Not to say his doing a good job either.

Just get on the phone to Braintree and get Devonshire in - that's what should have happened last season when Luggy got the bullet.

Why would he want to come here when we just might be swapping places with Braintree at the end of the season if we don't win some games soon.

Exactly, someone like Justin Edinburgh. Look at how well he is doing with Newport County. There is a reason why people like Graham Souness, Iain Dowie, Peter Reid etc are out of work and that's because the new young guys seem to be doing a much better job. Plus unless your Sir Alex, Wenger etc then you will struggle to stay in management with all the players now wanting to step into management.

Graham Coughlan for manager.

Where are the facts to back that statement up?

Most certainly not if you believe what Brown said at the Q&A that Coughlan was overwhelmed when covering for Sturrock.

He never said he was "overwhelmed" he said he was "under immense pressure", which he would have been if he was the only first team coach there.

However he worded it the clear impression was he wasnt coping or comfortable and happy to be relieved. Dont seem as manager potential personally.

Were you both there and didn't introduce yourselves??? :omg:

No, but made use of the excellent trust transcript!

Ditto, used the transcript too.

Maybe he isn't ready yet. Didn't Sturrock recommend for him to turn down the Plymouth job so he could learn the trade more?

Spot on James,

Devo has taken a village team into comfy mid table,He also knows lower league lads who would do a bloody decent job for us,..Why he never got this job is one big mystery.

Yes, Friday it should have been Timlin and not Straker. He barely has a squad to choose from so shouldn't be getting anything wrong IMO. For a few weeks it was picking Woodrow over Corr - Woodrow is arguably a better player, but him and Freddy clearly didn't complement each other. I don't think any forward has scored since he started to experiment up top.

Man management - fair call with Freddy, but this singling out of good honest pros is terrible. He also shows no loyalty to his players, and I doubt he would show the club any loyalty if he was doing well and anyone else came in for him.

But, I'm sure its not a freebie to sack him, so give him a bit longer and I hope he proves me wrong.

Maybe he didn't want it ? Would you work for Ron Martin ?
