Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

I still did not like the football and personally believe it cost us valuable points. As much as we had an against the odds season I felt it was less than we could of achieved despite everything. Yes Maher got manager of the season, mostly because of the off field shenanigans but, the players to a man made it work the best they could and they should have all been joint player of the season.
So, you're saying despite all of the problems we had last season, we underachieved? Is that correct?

I suppose one question could in theory be that we don't know what his favoured style is!

He's been the manager for two full seasons including this one and played two different styles. Last season was obviously better, faster paced and more forward thinking while he was unable to add to his squad, he did unbelievably for me personally. Then this season, although undoubtedly he's had issues yet again, he's been more free to sign players and the style has slowed down - until recently with the signings of players like Kendall, Hopper etc.

So which is his preferred style? Do any of us know for certain? He would probably say he changed the style to suit the match but I think he's an overly cautious and defensive manager as there's been multiple occasions when we should have attacked a game IMO and he chose not to. If as the season progresses he attacks games and we have a go then no problem for me, I just want to see us have a go.

The problem with this attractive style of football that people are expecting to see week in, week out, is that it can be difficult to implement successfully against ****house teams like Maidenhead. This is a problem we will encounter until we get out of this league, whoever the manager is.
He changed formation against Maidenhead though away from the 3 upfront and the alternative this season has been nothing but attractive.

He likes to control possession of the ball, use wing backs aggressively and press from the front.

That's precisely what this thread is debating 🤣
If those are offended by threads they don't agree with, they aren't obliged to read them.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

And you have to let people air their opinion.

But it is the shear volume of them by a significant minority of posters that is the problem.

Some really good topics have been spoilt by the constant sack sack sack noise.

And they are always just a repeat of what has been said before. Bringing nothing new to the conversation.

Yes that is my opinion and one shared by others.
The problem we have at the moment is I am expressing my opinion whilst the usual suspects question it, refer to alternative views as nonsense and want to be right. I have always tried to respect the views of those that are so pro Maher, helped by the fact I have a foot in both camps, but am responded to in a way that only pushes their own agenda in a manner of telling me I am wrong. That's their opinion and they are entitled to it but, this matter is not a case of black and white, the grey areas are abundant and will always lead to disagreement.
It's great our manager has a hard core of loyal following and hopefully he will do enough to retain it or even grow it. He has not done enough to escape criticism/questioning or to convince many he has what it takes to succeed. The opinion swingometer will, in time, go one way or the other but, no one is right until it is proven and that is a luxury knowledge afforded by time.

That is the biggest load of crap I've read in ages.

When we play ‘possession’ football or whatever it’s called, by the time we finally attack there are too many defenders in their box. Hence Maidenhead and the numerous shots bouncing off bodies and minimal clear cut chances. When we shift it forward and turn conference defending lumps we can get in .
Sure if an attack fails and we retain the ball, play some passing around. But it was becoming the default setting. Things seem to be livening up with 3 up top, going direct. Taking some chances

Having 3 centres half’s marking one attacker , Barnet being the most obvious case is poor. Move Taylor into midfield , it’s not like he has to stay there if they go 2 up top ..

Finally I think the do/don’t sack the manager should be a live ticker permanently at the top of the home page ..
it will keep the manager on his toes 😉

Little run now and we are in the playoffs, whatever your views about Kev and his management skills I think its time to be united and get behind the bloke, let's face it we all want him to succeed, give him the rest of this season whatever the outcome.
Thank you for this post, it captures perfectly what I was thinking just before I read it. I've always thought that the great thing about the Zone was that you could disagree without going to war with the other poster. But more and more, of late, it's become a battle ground at times for no other reason than to out shout another poster. As the man has just said, maybe its time to be united.

That is the biggest load of crap I've read in ages.
It really is, I appreciate there are many different views on how things are going this season, which I respect, but to criticise our performance last season, for me, is probably one of the most disrespectful posts I have ever read on SZ. I've watched for nearly 60 years and never been more proud of my Club than I was last season.

Im happy that new hread was closed quickly , to me a stupid thread ,truly if you are a true supporter of SUFC then why would you want any manager of the club to fail, I myself have stated its time for him to go many times now , because i still believe hes not the man to take us back to the efl ,last Tuesday night win dosent change that,Yes i would loveit if he proved me wrong, but lets see what he does when times get tough ,will he revert back to his side ways backwards style of play, or will he persist in the attacking formation he played Tuesday night, time will tell .

Sorry you thought it was a stupid thread - naturally I didn't.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment on here, I believe that there is an undercurrent of feeling of feeling that people who believe that a change in Manager will be required are seen as Kevin Out at all costs.

This is simply not the case and I wanted to try, albeit unsuccessfully, to demonstrate that irrelevant of our differing opinions that 100% of SZ posters want KM to succeed which is totally different to believing that he may not succeed.

It tickles me we win one and the poll changes - again.
The Zone lives game to game, and building a future ain't like that, is it?
However, I've noticed Kev only plays 'crab' football when we lose.
With pressure less but playing with more energy, removing Coker but adding Bridge; leaving KAF on the bench and a bit more resolve and hey presto, we beat Halifax! The poll also tilts three points (appropriate) in keeping KM.

But if you want him to succeed then you have to give him the opportunity to succeed - I don't see how you can want him out whilst wanting him to succeed.
