Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

But if you want him to succeed then you have to give him the opportunity to succeed - I don't see how you can want him out whilst wanting him to succeed.
I get what you're saying. Wanting him to succeed means giving him the opportunity to succeed, which also means giving him an unhindered summer of transfer business to have a mini rebuild, and not crying for him to be sacked after a loss or a "bad performance", or when we're one of the in form teams in the division and only 3-6 points off the playoffs despite having another ****e summer and starting somewhat behind.

I get what @Tampa Blue is saying, and don't doubt him.....but I also see how the two things could be perceived to be at odds.

The problem with your argument (although i agree with it in some ways) is its not just a bad game here or there. I would say 75%+ of our games this season have been bad.

There’s a misconception that success naturally goes hand in hand with football that is easy on the eye.

I said earlier in the thread, Sturrock’s football was horrendous to watch at times, far worse than Maher’s, but Luggy’s tenure was successful.

I fully agree that Maher’s football has been difficult and frustrating to watch at times, but when you take into consideration all the other factors that go along with it, and continue to go along with it to this day, I can only look at his tenure as successful.

Whether he’s the man to take us to the next level, I don’t know. Unfortunately for Sturrock, he wasn’t, and it needed Brown to come in and finish the job that Luggy had started. It might be that we need someone to finish the job Maher has been plugging away with.

Personally, I think Maher’s “success” so far has earned him the right to have a go at an unimpeded season.

Off topic a bit, but the ironic thing when comparing to Sturrock, is that our collapse from a healthy lead at the top of the table and down into the playoffs that season came largely (not wholly, but largely) as a result of Ron Martin ****ting the bed due to the vocal minority complaining about the brand of football, and Sturrock caving to Martin's instruction to try to be a bit more pleasing on the eye.

What does the poll need to show in order for this thread to be closed? Or will we now have a permanent thread debating sacking the manager? Afterall, as we know on here, irrespective of how good the results are, there will be those who want rid of the manager for one reason or another?
I'd suggest any views are aired at the end of the season, now (a) because I can't see COSU doing anything now (surely they wouldn't give him the push in the 1st season after the takeover) and (b) wouldn't our opinion depend on where we ultimately finish in the table ? Although you could argue the style of play could swing the vote

Yeah that’s how I remember it. @GBJ summary is definitely where we are now. Maher deserves the opportunity of next season to go at it unhindered and finish the amazing job he did saving our club. I won’t like him all the time, I never have as a player or manager but he’s a legend of our club and needs a fair go at promotion.

Why close the thread just because of one game. The debate is far from over, the jury is still out. The performance and result of Saturday's game could well change the picture again. Inconsistency has plagued us all season so anything is possible.

Really suprises me to read you didnt like Kev as a player ! Never shirked a tackle, was the first to get in position to be available for a pass out of defence and always a backup to Gower and JCR, always gave an easy pass and settled us down into a passing style. Constantly in the ear of referees, fiercely loyal and had a shot on him. Well that's how i saw Kev, i'll have another 9 of that in my team ! I doubt anyone fed Freddy the ball more. Sorry, i bit !

Fair play. I am indeed still on the fence, although the boys put in a performance midweek that i had said would put me back in support of Kev. But i need to see more advancing like that. Dont care who you are, if you cant get this club moving upward then for me, i'll have my doubts. Bobby Moore won the World Cup for chrissakes !

He likes to control possession of the ball, use wing backs aggressively and press from the front.
So why on earth does he think Ralph can play as a wing back as he can't fill that role and doesn't have the attributes to succeed in that position. There's just no logic to it. It's basic errors like this which is sole destroying. You can see it's not gonna work before a ball has been kicked. How has he not worked this kind of thing out yet!

Ralphy was a League 1 midfielder !
This isnt Kev's fault, Nathan had a stinker. Cant keep saying the buck stops with the manager, sometimes the players need to up their game. Even when playing out of position, which in this case is just a few yards up the pitch

The only time he's played more than a handful of games at League 1 was for us and that was at full back and was ridiculously out of his depth. Don't get me wrong he's been great for us since dropping to national league but that's his level.

I didn’t say that? If you look again I mused the question what would the poll need to look like before the thread is closed? Or will we now have a permanent open thread seeking the sacking of the manager?

If someone is in the cross hairs every good thing they ever did is airbrushed out. Surely by now you understand how it works :-)
