When the thread first started I selected ‘Yes’ not because I dislike Maher, not because of a couple of bad results, but because I do not think he will get us promoted. That opinion will not change, I just do not think he has what it takes to lead us to promotion.

I would love nothing more than to be proved wrong.

Exactly the same. Not gonna flip flop. Just what I’ve seen this season I don’t think he’ll ever get us up playing this way and making the weird decisions he does.

10 years ago there were the same comments on the endless PB must go threads.

After we won at Wembley and PB ‘proved’ them wrong they still whinged….continuously.

When we finished 7th in L1, people still wanted him sacked. Remember threads like “It can’t get any worse than PB.”……..mmmm

That’s when our fan base changed. From Manager stability to “I don’t care if Chris Powell has had 14 longterm injuries…..It’s results business”

Bond was too West Ham ( even though he never played for them) Sol was too mad and Molesley to unknown for our likings.

I think at one stage we were paying off 3 former mangers and about 20+ back room staff at the same time. PB had to go down the legal route to get paid by Ron.

That’s why Tax men and agents were knocked…. Football suicide.

fair to say sacking mangers got us into the NL. Perhaps we could sac our way out?

It’s not just managers, COSU are also getting slagged. I read comments like “if they haven’t got a spare £5m to waste then they should have never bought the club in the first place”……. The author to dumb to have considered the alternative.

Having said all that. There are certainly things I don’t like about Kev’s time so far but I don’t feel the need to remind people every day by hi-jacking every thread.

Shrimperzone has become a place to boast how tough you are with mangers….. sort of “my standards are higher then yours“ Now we have witch hunts for those flakey Maherists.

If COSU have learnt anything, it’s you can’t please modern football fan for more than a week.

Can get any worse…. Not with a 11 people backing us because diversity is our strength….well I’ve got news for you. it’s also our weakness. Dictators fight to the death a committee will break much more easily.

If one or two sit up and think “why am I wasting money on these ungrateful idiots” then it could get worse…. A f*****g whole lot worse.

In the same post? Or even on the same day? Maybe not.

But I have seen people using the style of play as a reason to boot Maher, refuting claims that they're just annoyed we're not challenging for the title with responses of "I don't care if we lose playing good football".....and then calling for his head again after Sittingbourne because "it's a results business".
To be fair, I remember a cracking 4-4 home draw with York sometime around Christmas 1997. What a game.

In an ideal world, of course they're not. But it's not an ideal world, and we're playing fifth tier football. So unfortunately, although not by design, they sometimes are mutually exclusive, leading many on here to call for the manager to be sacked whilst the team is in the below form:

And when you combine this with the unrealistic expectations for this season you kinda get a perfect Maher out storm.

Some folk on here have said that they think we could have achieved 2nd place. Madness.

No manager alive (or dead) could have done a better job with the cards that Maher has been dealt.

We should expect much less of next season too. Rebuilding a club takes time, and is more than just replacing a manager.

All this talk of a new manager is bonkers.

I just wish that those who continue to hijack threads with this nonsense would pipe down, let the rest of us enjoy Shrimperzone, and if they have to vent find somewhere else to do it.

Maybe the mods could create a chat room just for this.

ICYMI and for context v last season...

In short we are now tracking pretty close to this time last season. The only real difference is the goals scored. Defensively we are actually 1 goal better off. But, we went on a very good run this time last season (8 wins, 7 draws, 1 defeat in last 16 games). If we match it, then we will likely nick the last play-off spot. Let's see if they have it in them...

After 30 games last season we were in 9th* position:

P30, W13, D5, L12. GF 44, GA 33. Pts 44*

So currently 2 places, 2 points and -7 GD (GF -8 & GA +1) worse off, compared to the same stage last season*.

(Please stop using unnecessary acronyms that nobody has heard of)

I thank you.

Maher didn't switch formation because fans or people on SZ told him too. 3-4-3 was the formation he first used when he came in three and a half years ago.
Perhaps the players decided by voicing their concerns or not being 100% committed to Mahers style of football, he stated that he won't change, he damn well will if the players won't or can't be doing with it.

He didn’t change, he has used the style of football and system we played on Tuesday plenty of times before, and he will use it again.

Contrary to popular belief, we were not playing the exact same system and formation every game before Tuesday. Maher does mix it up based on the opposition, as any decent manager should do. Sometimes he gets it right, and sometimes he gets it wrong. The form table shows that currently he is getting it right more often than he is getting it wrong.

The problem with this attractive style of football that people are expecting to see week in, week out, is that it can be difficult to implement successfully against ****house teams like Maidenhead. This is a problem we will encounter until we get out of this league, whoever the manager is.

He did, it was his preferred formation, but we didn’t have the players to execute on it. Either in the press or CM where we repeatedly got outnumbered and over run. As recently as Sittingbourne we looked awful with 3 up top. So it’s not the automatic silver bullet.

We are nearer than ever having the right players for a front three, and closer to what we need in the CM. But still much room for improvement. But it is now, mostly, working better, and having two who can play down the middle and press, players who can play wide in the three and press, particularly the likes of Kendall makes a big difference. But to press for the whole game game and cover for injuries you really need at least 7 or 8 who can play there to maintain the press all game every game. If you make 5 subs more often than not it will be around the front 3 and CM.

Even by the standards of alternative facts and unsubstantiated rumour common on SZ this is far fetched. TBF your use of the word “perhaps” is noted!…

Might explain why sides promoted from the NL tend to “over perform” once they do get into the EFL?

Completely agree with this, other factors include only 2 spaces for promotion and the difficultly of signing quality players.

League Two is not the jump in standards that some people might imagine so the only real way to get up is to find a player that could be in League One in 2 years, or already is. Some of the recent clubs that have won promotion are now looking to get into the championship.

I am infinitely more bored watching us this season though.

After the gap beteen yes and no had narrowed to nearly single digitsj, one decent performance seems to have changed many minds and has widened again Seriously, is one single game really enough evidence to change your view?

Since the beginning of the poll on Nov 16th, and up to Jan 31st, the distance between stay/go remained pretty much the same. Quite wide in favour of Maher staying (We only lost two games in that time).

We then lost 2 games in the space of 7 days, and the gap narrowed and narrowed again, to the closest it’s ever been.

So yeah, I guess single games are enough for people to change their mind. Some might call
this reactionary

If opinions can change after a mere 90 mins action then some peoole are easily swayed.

Interesting. So only your point of view is permitted? You may as well not join a forum and just talk to yourself.
