Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

Before you get too gleeful at that prospect the game that would drop off would be the 2-2 v Forest Green, so a draw would keep us at 18 points from the last 10.
A draw ,which FWIW would be my prediction for the game, although TBF we often manage to win against teams below us in the table, while it might maintain our place in the form table would not be a good result ,IMO,especially after arguably the worst result in SUFC's history last weekend IE losing in the Fat at home to Sittingbourne.

I've swerved this thread for a while, but, to try and have a balanced view I've caught up with it again. Sadly, it's pretty much the same stuff re-posted over and over again. That doesn't make the views posted wrong (there are no wrong views) but the repetition does not enhance the argument at all. And the poll shows very little sign of changing for the moment regardless of last Saturday's capitulation. I'm still backing Kev and co by the way for the avoidance of doubt.
Agree, in similar vein it's like the often stated view that the football being played this season is going to adversely effect Season Ticket sales going forward but our very own SZ thread/poll on intentions for next season are not currently projecting the decline in sales forecast by some.

Mid table mediocrity beating teams below us and losing to those above seems our fate this season. Cue a post about the win at Halifax.

It would be a mistake to think all zoners are season card holders (I'm not eg.) :Winking:

Yes, as Nick Alliker would say 'A good point well made' but not a bad marker based on the votes for renewal so far cast if reflective across the current 4300 odd ST holders. Who knows allowing for potential new take ups to offset non renewals, a quality summer acquisition or two to the squad and organic onions with the Vegan burgers and we could have more than this season 🤪

@Ricey would be orgasmic if that lot were available. Mind you, he has already said he will renew. :Winking:

I agree that the argument hasn't changed and there's no new view points, I'm just not sure how much more of the awful football we've seen I can take.

That being said, I'm encouraged by signings such as Hayes and Hopper, even Kendall, despite his lack of goals. I think they're potentially at least, good players. It's whether Maher is the right man to get them playing exciting football or at least attacking football for me personally. I'm not sure he'll ever play that way even with several unhindered preseasons, he's too defensively minded. I do think that COSU are showing that given time they will try and recruit the right players so next season we should at least on paper have a stronger squad.

I was feeling a lot more upbeat before last Saturday, I suppose the proof of the pudding for me will come over the next few weeks of the season and how we approach those games. If we defend and hang on for dear life or lose poorly as we have done against Barnet recently then I think the time's come for me to give COSU's budget to someone else. If he surprises me and attacks the teams ahead of us - even if we don't always win, I'll be a lot happier. Here's hoping.

Now that we have made signings that Kev wanted, the next 5 or 6 games are all I need to see if he is the man to take us forward. Saturday was terrible and summed up this season, but now we have bodies in, let's see what he does with them.
Surely we can't use the line he doesn't have the players now.
Unfortunately I don't believe we are going anywhere under his leadership, but these next few games could change my mind and a lot of others. Fingers crossed all goes well but....

291 who voted No, is an idiot, ****ty defensive 5-3-2 formation costing us and Maidenhead put a double win over us!! Without Maher gifts, Maidenhead would be almost relegated with Ebbsfleet by now.

Think it's time now, at the first sign of 3 at the front not working Maher was happy to take that as a sign it doesn't work. When his preferred formation doesn't work time and time again though he doesn't seem to think it's a problem.

A new Manager needs time ( ie the rest of this season ) to either get these players playing as a decent side or to realise they just aren't good enough and build his own side.
I know he can't move everyone on at once but its better to give someone new that time before a new season.
