Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

As I said on the Brentwood thread my parents both packed up watching us in 65/6 because they didn't want to watch Div 4 football.Personally as a teenager I loved those Friday night games under the lightsDidn't realise I was signing up to watching us in the NL though.Think there's a bit of difference betwwen beating Brentwood 10-1 in the FA Cup and 5-3 away In the FAT,Saturday's game was awful.Clearly neither we nor Hartlepool are going to make the play offs this season.

We have a squad of players good enough for the play offs but we're not there. We have players that though fear or lack of confidence are playing at nowhere near the level they have shown in the past. Our home form is way off where it should be. The football is dull to say the least. It's down to the coaching team to improve all these issues. However, it's easy to think it couldn't be any worse under a new manager but of course it definitely could. We've had six managers in the last decade and I'd still take KM over any of the others.

Sounds ungrateful, he got them promoted last year.
Massive step up from Championship to Premier League. Didn`t change from his obsession of possession and passing football? Would not change his way, which is fine when it works, but 5 points and bottom of the league tells you where they are.

We still played the same amount of games so goal difference, clean sheets or goals is still the same. Points deduction is just another red herring. If we played to our potential and not tippy-tappy nonsense we could and should have still made the play-offs, IMHO.
But you named the teams that finished above us...

It's not a philosophy, it's a statically proven fact. You cannot lose games if you do not concede.
Wait. is this rage baiting ? !

The phrase best form of attack is defence is there for a reason. Need to score goals plural to win and make sure we win .ie. Not leave it to chance that we let in a goal and can't get back into a game.

As per other comment, 46 00 draws will get you relegated!

I am not advocating for 0-0 draws, I am highlighting the importance of clean sheets.

I think you mean the best form of defence is attack.
Llap Goch (The goodies) is the ancient welsh Martial Art
The best form of defence is attack
The most vital part of attack is surprise
So the best way to defend yourself is to Attack before he attacks you
Better still before the thought of doing so has even occurred to him
So you may be able to render your assailant Unconscious before he is even aware of your existence

Not "The Goodies", that was from one of the Monty Python books.

Personally I think 90% of the fan base would agree that Maher deserves a preseason to prepare properly and show what he can do unhindered.

The issues are that to do that means were almost guaranteed another season of National League football, which lets face it, is pretty dire generally, the away grounds are mostly not up to much and the officiating is awful. Then, on top of that unless something major changes, the style of football is really not enjoyable. I love Southend and won't stop going but I go to be entertained and seeing us play so poorly and actively play not to lose is not fun. And then if a fan says anything Maher doesn't like, he's also likely to turn round and have a go at the fans. This may be too much for some fans to tolerate.

Maher done brilliantly last season and fully deserved all the credit he got. Sadly the way the world works he's now got to accept the criticism coming his way.

I am happy to stick with Kev. Who do we get if we do Bin him ? Look at our 4 previous managers, Bond, Campbell, Molesley and Brown. All of them were frying pan into the fire appointments.

To be fair, and I’m probably the most Maher In person out there, but COSU haven’t had the chance to appoint someone yet. All of those are RM appointments.

COSU could get someone who does an incredible job, or someone woeful. They haven’t had a chance to try that yet.
