Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

With respect, that is just an opinion. Those who work in highly competitive industries would get eaten for breakfast if we had anything other than that opinion. The long term impact of winning over coming 2nd, is the difference between getting paid and going out of business.

Whilst I appreciate that everybody reacts differently to different types of encouragement / motivation, I think that the last place you would want to foster a safe, comfortable environment is a professional changing room - this is what creates a mentality of going through the motions.
This is all going a bit off topic but the examples you've listed an individual would have agency. At the football, I'm a fan wanting my team to win every game but knowing they won't.

I broadly carry this approach through life and try (mostly) my hardest to improve & succeed but I am aware that sometimes that won't be enough. I don't think that thinking of myself or anyone else as a loser is a healthy reaction in that outcome.

To try to bring it back on topic: no one can win all the time, certainly not a single football team. Even Man City have lost their last 4 games. I think some people here need to realise that it is precisely BECAUSE the other team is trying to beat us that we can't win them all. Whether they were a pub team or not.

Stan is hardly going to name names. I think him leaving us was a huge shame personally and it's hardly got a mention. He was instrumental in getting Tom in, setting up the football department and actually getting a structure approaching professional in place after years and years of flapping about aimlessly with no long term plan. Something does seem amiss since he's gone. Co-incidence? Time will tell I guess and all eyes will be on our recruitment over the next few months.
Is there anything in the names he hasn't mentioned?

Stan - apologies in advance if I'm inferring something you hadn't intended.

The not too up and not too down approach serves well.

Maher in! All day long. All season long in fact.

This season was never going to be the success that so many of you seem to be expecting.

Im blown away by the lack of empathy that nearly 30% of you on here are showing. Kevin Maher, Darren Currie and Mark Bentley were huge part of what kept this club alive over the last few seasons. Not just on the pitch but off it as well. They have performed miracles in near impossible situations, earning serious plaudits along the way.

Yet a large percentage of you now want to throw them out of the club because a shaky start to the season after we finally get rid of RM and are still reeling from his legacy. Where’s the loyalty, like Kev showed to us? Surely the minimum he deserves is a fair shot?

Some of the opinions as well…Kev needs to change his system…same breath, why did he change some of the players for the last game…! Seriously guys would you be happy with your 442, long ball to a big centre forward, hatchet man in midfield and big thuggish players all over the pitch? He is trying to implement a style of play that is technical and modern which will ultimately bear fruit.

Don’t care if you disagree, won’t reply again. Just needed to say the above!
Don't get why you're so wound up by differing opinions, especially when Kev has the majority in support of his continued leadership, but not necessarily his style of play and player choices.
I hope you're all correct in the assertion that it will eventually bear fruit.

Would suggest that January will mark the start of the rebuild. Patience is needed. The days of a scatter gun approach to transfers are over thank goodness.
Why January? There is no window now. If we wait until January we will need to wait for February as good players will wait and hope for an EFL move. All we are suggesting with this is kicking the can down the road.

If we want a player go out and get him however it appears that we are not even remotely doing this currently. Wish the club would just say we are going to wait for next summer and just let this season pass at least then fans would know the plans and not have higher hopes.

Maher should really give it a go in the FA Trophy this season as I imagine other teams will likely rotate so could have a great opportunity for a day out at Wembley again!

Come on, Dan. Do you not think that if Maher could have his targets through the door right now, he would?

I feel sometimes like some people forget that other clubs exist.

"If we want a player, go out and get him", as if there isn't another club with whom he has a contract, and who might not be ready to release him just yet.

"We should impose ourselves and be on top against every opponent we play against", as if there isn't another team there who have trained all week to stop us from doing just that.

Thanks for reposting those names, which you have before l know. The right wing back was Felix I believe from Eastbourne and now a favourite at York.

Just underpins the difference we could have had, save for one individual's actions preventing those named from completing their signings. It is always good to refer to such individuals not arriving for reference and balance the debate.

Hence why January could be key to our season and we could be in a better place at the end of Jan hopefully.
Felix wouldn't have been starting though, as we have Gus - so that signing would have made no difference.

Saw one comment which I agree with, to the effect that, if we lose away to Brentwood in the FA trophy then KM will be out.

Are you sure?

I’d be surprised if GSM is here past January, and to be honest, he is another who I think hasn’t hit the heights this season in terms of his play. Obviously his goal output is fantastic.

A Felix or even a GSM as understudy, would be better than Wind and that’s no disrespect to Wind.

Way off topic given the thread title, but as George has only played one 90 minute game and ended up MoM, what have you seen to arrive at that opinion.

Because Felix is doing very well at York, and a bit of a fan favourite, and GSM is a fan favourite here and been terrific since he arrived. Wind has played one full match for us, so hasn’t got in past GSM, so if we signed Felix and he started, GSM would be a better understand than Wind, who hasn’t broke past GSM.

No disrespect to Wind, he maybe terrific for us when GSM goes. I’m certainly not slagging him off or righting him off.

Harrison Male, their goalkeeper they signed from Dorking was our top GK target in the summer. Wonder how he’d have done over Collin this season.

To be honest I doubt it because who really gives a **** about the FA Trophy? A team like Southend, who let’s not forget just over a decade ago appeared in three high profile LDV vans trophy finals, should not be concerning themselves with cubs football competitions like this anyway. I actually take pride that we have never won the FA ****ing Trophy. Up the shrimpers
