Whilst I agree with the sentiment of your post, I have to point out that we played 3-4-3 against Sittingbourne. Hopper, Walker and Kendall started.

Edit: and it’s Fylde not Flyde! The amount of people who still mispronounce their name winds me up!

Even their commentators after 20 mins of watching us play all season were saying, they look to break quickly, get to the half way line and then stop and go backwards.

Poor today, especially in the 1st half, but it’s a point gained. Onto my local team next week, and we owe them one for the ref assisted lucky defeat back at roots hall, but we are 4 unbeaten and 5 points off the play offs.

Keep this run going and we will be there or there abouts.

In terms of satisfying the clamour for more forwards in our play, at various periods we had Bonne, Hopper, Kendall and Waldron on the Tamworth pitch. Just saying.

There is a bit of me thinking the big club (for this league) syndrome gets to the players.
They know they're expected to win in front of a travelling support some could only dream of, and against lesser outfits.
To whit: Sittingbourne, Maidenhead and now Tamworth have done a number on us.
There has to be an element of fear at being shown up by these teams.
And that folks, is the mindset of the NL player - medium at best.

Just got back from Tamworth. First half was awful, proper Maher ball. We'd go forward, stop and then pass sideways. Second half was better but still not great. The most disappointing thing about today was our fans. Silent for the whole 90 minutes despite great numbers. Well outstang by their chats.
Unfortunately that’s more a reflection on what is being served up on the pitch at the time. It’s on the team to spark the fans into life really. As the product improves on the pitch, so will the noise levels.

We had two chances to shoot on target and score, before Tamworth scored. One of them was a real spooner. Absolutely ****. We didnt play badly overall, we just dont shoot on target. Ballooned, blazened, smashed, volleyed, everywhere but the goal. Thank god Gus is there for the tap ins.
Still cant see what Hopper brings to us, useless. Bonne's shooting is bad enough.

And the sun in my eyes made for horrible viewing.
****in tinpot clubs.
Get me out of here Maher !
I cannot bring myself to say a point at Tamworth is a good point away.

Only slightly worse than our humiliation. I reckon a lot of players have seen that the play off final is on 1st June and have said ***k that - I’d rather be on holiday in Benidorm.
I don't think you understand the mentality of modern players. Its much more likely to be Sharm-el-Sheikh

I struggle to understand why we should be beating them. Before playing us they had won 10 and drawn 9, so surely there are a lot of teams that should be beating these part timers 🤷

Is this post for real?

Southend shouldn't expect to beat a part time team?

Full time Southend united shouldn't expect to beat a team who only train a couple of times a week?

Southend shouldn't expect to beat a team 15th in the National League?

Southend, with their high 6000 attendees and probable (conservative) 5 times larger budget shouldn't expect to beat Tamworth?

Southend shouldn't expect to beat a team that included someone who sells zips for a living?

**** me. The acceptance of mediocrity is astounding.

If I performed like this in my day job, I'd rightly be on a performance review.

I don't expect to win every game, nor finish in the playoffs. I do expect us to beat part part timers.

Something we failed to do twice this month.

Apathy reigns supreme.

Tamworth held Tottenham Hotspur to 0-0 after 90 minutes. They might be part time but they are fit and quite skilfull. Their 3G pitch gives them an advantage. The second half was quite entertaining. We could have won, but we could also have lost if Tamworth had converted their chances. I predicted a 1-1 draw before the game and I think it was a fair result. We moved a point closer to the play offs.

It's all very well saying that Southend as a full time team should beat a part time team but we know that's not how it works. Imagine how predictable it would be if the better team always won - what would be the point of it all? It would be a league like the Scottish Premier with Celtic and Rangers winning all the time (mind you, they both lost today!).

Bang average today, which pretty much sums up our season. I don’t get what some fans think is going to change under this manager that means next season it will be different? He’ll have a pre-season, some bloke told me today. If we’d had a pre season last summer, would that have meant we’d have beaten part-timers Tamworth and Maidenhead recently? If we’d done this - and we have much better squads and bigger budgets than both - we’d be level with Altrincham, and if we’d have beaten part time Maidenhead at home earlier this season we’d be 5th and looking fairly safe for the play offs. There’s no rocket science here - just go for it against weaker sides and take the points - rather than cautiously sitting there back saying that a point on the road is good.

It's reasonably likely we'd have a different squad. Not totally different obviously - but a few different players.
