Just had a look on the fa out of contract players and the following seemed to fit the bill.

Abdolaye Faye, Anthony Gardener and Peter Clarke.

This isn't me saying I think it is one of them so don't shoot me down, but in my opinion, these three fit the 'colossal' tag that brown gave. Maybe not Clarke though. I am probably completely wrong because I doubt we could afford any of these.

Both ex-Hull players...have they worked with Brown before?

Oh dear if this colossus of a defender is actually going to cost us money?????!!!!!

“Signing this defender would certainly help where that was concerned.”
Brown is soon expected to hold further talks with the defender.
But he will first be speaking with club chairman Ron Martin.
“This is another move that could well come down to finances so I will be talking to the chairman and seeing what we can afford,” said Brown.

We won't hold our breath for that one then!!! ;)

HMM anothe rstriker at a premier league club , yesssss get Giroud hes at a premier league club.:blush:no errrrrrrrrr Van Persie or i think Ratface will be going cheap from Liverpool.

If the centre-back was playing in League 2, it could be the Morecambe captain Mark Hughes ((6' 4" in height) or Ryan Cresswell who hinted last season that he would not rule out a return to Southend. And Brown was certainly disappointed to lose Cresswell.

Hughes and Cresswell can chip in with a few goals, but both are currently under contract. And that maybe why Brown spoke about the need to speak to the Chairman about what was available to spend in any possible deal.

All this, of course, is just speculation.

my guess on the centre back subject is Luke Oliver. about 6'6'' and has the well worn connection with parkinson while at bradford. Currently with Forest Green according to Wiki so could require a nominal fee.
