if lomas is coming in as it seems he will be .I guess contracts will be signed he player announced .But wont jion the club untill the 1st of july as the other two are .

That is the same for any free agent we sign. However, they will be reporting for pre-season training with the rest of the squad.

So reading between the lines .Its the CEO that says yes or no now for signings .And Ron sits back and just spashes the cash if he has any to splash about that is .

Kev will always have the final say on any signings. But it’s down to Tom to give the nod and sign off on the financial/contractual side of things (subject to him above advancing any required funds of course)

That’s after each target is thoroughly scouted, analysed and agreed upon by the entire football dept. It’s a proper process these days. No more little black books or old boys clubs.

End of the day it's Kev who is first in line for a P45 if it goes Pete Tong (Hopefully it won't) so it's only right and proper he gets the final say on any additions. If the football dept bring Messi to the table and Kev decides he's not for us, that's it, on to the next target. It's exactly how it should be.

Maher and the gang will shortlist what players they want in what positions and will most likely have options for each.

I.e A RWB and here is my first, second and third choices.

Tom will most likely then be the man making calls, crunching the numbers and getting people through the door to chat with the management team.

All Ron has to do is sign the checks based on what budget he has allocated for the season, but again this will most likely be managed by Tom.

Nice to hear from Kev that things are progressing but if we have to wait until next week or the week after for the right players then so be it.

Not sure when the players report back for pre-season but if the core of the squad is in place by 25th June (6 weeks before the opening game) then happy days - if we are going to bring in a loan or 2 they will be training with their clubs anyway.

In a perfect world, it would be great if the powers that be sat down and said we want to sign 6-8 players and there are 6 weeks between end of season and pre-season, lets spread them out evenly to keep a steady flow of good news and fans happy but reality is very different as others have already detailed.

But more importantly, we have craved a clear out for the last 3 years and never really got it. We have that now and it would be criminal to then panic and sign the wrong players. If the number 1 targets are still available and we are engaged then happy to be patient, let it play out and continue to F5 multiple times a day in the hope of a new addition!

We registered interest with the clubs of the loan players, nothing more yet as of common knowledge.
The loan players will only return if there clubs can't find a efl club. There clubs will like to see them in the football league.its not up to the players, there clubs will keep testing them in a higher league every season, and when they reach there leve, even if it's not the level there club is in,the player will be worth more money, look at Neil for example 6month loan at Kettering nnl , did well, then 6 month with us did well, next step efl 2 and so on.we just have to hope there's no takers in the efl.if so the will return because they will not want to play u23 football.

Disagree, if Sheffield United think Southend is the best place for their continued development, then, if we want them, and at the moment we do, they may come back - even if other clubs in the EFL are keen.

QPR have signed Jake Clarke-Salter, a left sided centre back from Chelsea, may well push Gubbins further down the order there.

What JD said.

EFL clubs do not get first dibs, its where Sheffield want them to go.

Not saying sheff Utd will not send us players .think if they can find lopta,Neil, brunt a efl club they will,Then sheff Utd will probably want to send there next crop of youngsters to us,But how much does DC know about there next crop, with them probably being younger, will DC have work with them when he was sheff Utd u23 manager?

It purely depends on where Sheffield wants them, it doesn't HAVE to be an EFL club, the likeliness of them going to an EFL club is definitely much higher.

I don't think it matters if DC knows them or not, he has a relationship with the club where the club and scouts will watch and be given information on the players and whether they'd be a good fit for our system and club.

While this is ideal, I wouldn't be surprised to see some signings made after the season starts. The EFL transfer window closes on September 1st and any signings made up until then could result in players becoming available, either permanent transfers or loans.

I believe that it will be more about Sheffield United’s thoughts about the coaching set ups at the clubs that they may get sent. Whether that put us higher up the queue I don’t know but there is definitely a good relationship there already.

Why would I send to L1 to play in a poorly coached team??
