Hi guys, first time on here been a season ticket holder for nearly 20 years.

All seems very positive is this southend?

Let’s hope this week at least one of these gets announced . It will be the most positive end to a season I could of wished for .
Welcome.

I wouldn’t worry too much if they get announced this week or not. From the club’s perspective it doesn’t matter if it gets completed this week, next week or the week after. If one step in the chain is away (the agent, the player, the medical staff, the person who registers the player, the person who takes the photos of them on the pitch holding a scarf) then they’ll just wait for that person to get back from holiday to do their bit and let the other party know that’s what happening. If it was during the season it would be different but this time of the year it can wait a week until someone is back from hols.

If Dorking could afford to insure him, I’m pretty sure we can. Might just need to use a different insurance company than our usual one.
It doesn’t really work like that. I think he’d be going from semi pro to pro which is a huge change. He’s also likely going from a small contract to a big contract. So from a smaller premium to a much bigger premium.

I think it’s likely though that insurers would seek to exclude any loss related to his heart condition. Maybe we take the risk of having him effectively uninsured but would you take that risk the season after losing Abu Ogogo to a heart issue? That becomes a greater risk if you’re paying a transfer fee as well.

I don't know how the insurance works but surely the amount we pay be based on the player's wage? Presumably part of the insurance is that the insurer contributes to the wages if a player isn't fit to play (since we'd be wasting our money whilst they're out) so I'd guess the insurance would be much more expensive for a professional player than a semi-pro player (which is what he currently is).

Earlier on in this thread I noticed that Mr Cheek got into double digit mentions

Whether that warrants a traffic light of any kind Im not sure and leave to Smiffys discretion
Fair comment. Added to the list on Page 1.

Living in Southampton, and my daughter plays for Eastleigh Blues U16`s, we go to the odd game and watch Eastleigh. I`ve seen Sam Smart play quite a few times, and he has pace in abundance, but, needs the strikers to be on the end of his crosses. This is taken from the fans forum after their retained/released players was announced;

" As for Smarty, I still think he can play at this level, so I wouldn't be surprised if one of the more local National League sides didn't take a chance on him. Electric pace is hard to find and he has it in abundance. If I was a striker at this level, I would want a Smarty playing on the wing providing endless crosses for me to get on to. Without being disrespectful to our strikers this season, when he burst's down the wing, they couldn't keep up with him, so his crosses were usually in vain and that's why I want us to sign some quicker strikers, because having a no.9 with pace will give you more than 50% more chances every game & that's what we lacked this season".

We went to the last game of the season, a 4-4 thriller against Grimsby. They were awful in the first half, 2-0 down. they made a couple of changes at half time, Sam Smart and Danny Whitehall came on, and they were much better, they both scored early in the second half.

Smart did go to Havant for a period on loan, but, he should be playing, at least National League level. With the right coaching and players able to keep up and receive his crosses, he is lightning quick!!

Up the Blues

I know we’re mainly talking about incomings, but what about outgoings of our still contracted players, any know if there are clubs sniffing around some of ours?

Probably best off in another thread mate. Feel free to start one if you wish.

Reminder. The latest list and scale can be found on page 1. Updated regularly.

A little early perhaps?...of course not.

Let's kick off the annual mega thread on transfer targets.

Who would you like to see us go for?...Have you heard any whispers?

Updated list with SZ rumour scale:

? - Very likely target/Very strong rumours/Completed

? - Possible target/Reasonable rumours/Slow burner

? - Very unlikely target/Minimal rumours/Not happening

To save everyone scrolling through loads of pages. Again this is based on whats being mentioned on here and across the socials by the fanbase. We wont include every single name that's been mentioned. Just ones with multiple mentions and at least a crumb of realism. Names and the scale will be updated as and when required.

? Mooney - Altrincham
? Miley - Eastleigh/Unattached
? Murombedzi - Brackley
? Lomas - Brackley
? Rutherford - Dorking
? Lopata ? - Sheff U
? Cheek - Bromley
Mark Noble? ?

Bloody auto-correct .........I suppose it's too late to change now for the time of the first signing comp? It's come out as today, ????whereas I meant to put the date as the 24th of July.
