signing players before the summer break and having to pay wages through that period with no income??...............................what's going on?? Unheard of.

Given we may play three up top and the ones we have can play anywhere across a top 3 I would lump in Bridge and say we have X players who can play in the front three and we need probably 6 min (conventional wisdom being two per position).

Murphy, Powell, Caldwell, Dalby, Bridge plus X? Probably for me the perfect "X" would be Cheek plus Mooney..that would give 7 to cover the 3 places.

8 midfielders ( to include the wingbacks) and 6 defenders and 2 keepers. 23 ? or similar?

I'll be honest and say i'd be gutted if we signed anyone this week.

I use this period of inactivity to reduce my viewing of ShrimperZone until just before the season starts which is when Southend normally start their panic buying of players from the bargain bin.

He was as mobile as an oil tanker. A couple of late season goals don't cover up his failings in midfield.

Perhaps not .But It'll be interesting to see who we get in to replace him.
