So any news on the striker we are in talks with?
I think it’s a sit tight and see what might happen from what’s been said on here.. personal terms and medicals would be a formality…. Hopefully the player has made it clear he wants to leave and that might make it easier for us to get him… but it also might not… who knows

The thing is how long do we leave it ? Until we say we can’t wait any longer and move on to the next target .

Just noticed Sim is wearing numbered training gear with number 20 on, whereas some of the younger lads like Crowhurst and Arrowsmith are wearing unnumbered gear.

It’s most likely an insignificant detail, but is there a possibility of him being offered or promised a short term deal?

We just have to accept reality here, lopata played a great part in keeping us up last year, id love him to sign but i think we have to put stock in the players we have, its symptomatic of the last few horrible seasons we've had as i dont remember us banging on so much about signing federici or dervite or harding etc etc.

That said, im happy to be proved wrong. But imo he is far too good and has far too much potential for non league football.

If Lopata was offered an chance to come back & Southend can afford the fees for transfer, he would snapped it off Southend hands - reality’s that Sheffield Utd will try and force him to sign or flog him off somewhere.

Well Mussa was green and we all know that story.

I think until there’s concrete evidence to suggest Wes or anyone is signed and importantly registered with the NL and mug shots on the OS, we will have to be a bit cautious with dishing 🟢 or 🤝 out.
If training with us and doing the interview does not qualify for a green what does?
As you said 'we all know that story' but the ending was rather unusual. In my opinion the green light was a 100% correct assessment at the time, and, the rather unusual circumstances that followed could hardly have been foreseen.
Your definition of green is 'Very likely target and/or Very strong rumours and/or In talks' and I think both Wes, and, Mussa before fit the definition.

I am putting him on here as he is an ex shrimper now, a very good player but unrealistic hopes of signing him and everyone(including me) is just clogging up the transfer gossip page about signing him.

Polish under 21 captain playing with people in the top flight with players from the top flight of Germany, England, Italy and France, signing permanently for a non league side unfortunately its no chance. I would love someone to say to be this has aged well though!

Forget lopata and let's sign josh kelly...... striker is more of priority than defender at the moment.
Josh Kelly would be a great signing. If we were to bag him (or someone similar .. cough) plus a midfielder I think most would say we’ve had a decent summer’s business. I still think there’s room for a CB.

We have done some very good business..... out of the striker who we have been linked with, Kelly looks the best fit to me. Someone with pace and capable of scoring 15/20 goals at this level. Looking at our squad I think we are 90% complete interms of squad completion. Loan system should be utilised interms of bringing in couple more players to act as back up and add to the competition for places.

Sim does look fitter, I think our management team is trying to be careful with him, after his long injury last season, they are doing all they can to help him out, either finding him an club or give him one more shot with us.
