Without any ITK knowledge on this bit, I’d be surprised if there was any trialists tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a testing day. Before the squad break for summer they do a series of tests, and then these are repeated on day one of pre-season to find out what sort of shape they return in.

I’d imagine, if we were to bring in trialists, and I’m sure we will (not necessarily to sign), they’d start to arrive close to the matches.
Yes fair point BW2

Also, when I say about trialists coming in, and not necessarily to sign, let me example a bit more as this is something we’ve done over the years, and everyone does it as well.

Each player will have a break down of their work over the pre-season period (the management trio along with sports scientist etc will have worked these out). This will also have an idea of rough minutes to be played in frendlies, I.e. 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 75 minutes then a full game.

Take the goalkeepers for example, as we have two for that position, not including any youngsters. Let’s say the young keepers aren’t available for whatever reason (their own matches, injuries, precautions etc). Arnold has a bruised finger, not risked in pre-season number 4. Colin has exceeded his minutes already because Arnold missed game 3. The management trio may look to get a goalkeeper in to play 45/90 minutes to not overwork Colin already. This could be from an agent friend (David Lee & Mark Gower are close mates with Kev). It might be a goalkeeper Benno worked with at Canvey doing us a favour. We won’t sign this player, he is helping out as a huge favour.

Also, we might be interested in player X, the agent says please take a look at player Y, struggling to get him a chance anywhere. We do it as a favour to an agent because we really want player X.

Thats a very helpful and informative explanation and Im sure you are right that triallist do now tend to come in later

We did go nuts one year I recall during the BBBC and Eastwood era when for some reason I think we brought in a team of ELEVEN triallists !!
