Whilst I agree with you, it's only beneficial if the player running through on goal can actually shoot or use their pace productively. Pace in team is most certainly needed but that shouldn't be to the detriment of possibly signing someone like Cheek.

Dennis also hit his best form when he wasn't running at players, but being in the right place at the right time to tap the rebounds in. Cheek can certainly do that, and at a more consistent rate. His record speaks for itself.

If we had any chance of signing him, we should snatch their hands off. We've all been saying that we need X amount of goals to get into the play-offs, he gives a huge proportion of that required total.

I'm all for potential but if we can get a proven striker at the right price, we'd be mad to not preserve.
Yeah like I said already I’d take someone with his record regardless probably. But if you’ve only got x amount to sign a squad for a season you should probably balance it so that you’ve got a mixture of players that can play in different systems.

Forgive me if I’m majorly over-simplifying this because I’ve only seen Cheek play once but isn’t he more of a target man striker which between Cardwell and Dalby we probably have covered. Yes they don’t return the same amount of goals as Cheek yet but positionally and playing style wise - similar?

And I agree that pace in the situation I described is only any good if you can finish, as you said. But in a way, that kinda adds even more weight to what I’m saying. Because if we don’t spend what budget (if any) we have left for a striker on one with pace, then we’d have to play players like Powell and Bridge further forward instead. And who would you back to score more one-on-ones out of Matt Dennis, Jack Bridge and Callum Powell?

Most of those have either moved on or would command a fee. I think the only player who is a free agent is Max Kretzschmar (rumoured to have interest from Col U).
Kretzschmar won Woking's Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards in 2021/22- and is a midfielder who presumably likes to get forward given goal tally throughout his career (he was their penalty taker).

Supposedly couldn't agree ££ at Woking, Colchester interested and a number of NL clubs. He doesn't seem to move far from home counties/Surrey- we might be as far as he would look to go without getting a nose bleed. Depends who is in for him, where they are located and how much he is looking for.

He won't be cheap and nor should he be- 28, in his prime and a proven package. That said probably the profile we should be looking forward to go along with the up and coming types we have in MF. We perhaps need to balance the cheap very much up and coming NLS/NLN types with the right proven performers in their prime...and surely we have shifted a few high earners off the budget to open up a possibility or two.

From their records I wouldn't back any off those three particularly, Dennis had that run of tap ins where he was in the right position at the right time- luck? transformation into a born goalscorer? Hmm...

Cardwell and Dalby appear not prolific. Murphy is but a bit fragile? Mooney could be the surprise goalscoring package. But the fact is we are as a team desperately short of goals - one of the worst in the division. Will just replacing Dennis with Mooney fix that? Maybe a different CM will? In the end Kev has to decide if it the lack of goal threat up front, the CM the wingbacks but something needs major surgery in the goals for column...

What do you mean?! Powell's one on one away at Barnet was top notch... 🤣

Yes, I get what you're saying. All depends if the player is too good for the management team to turn down I guess.

To be fair, I don't think Cheek fits our management teams profile. They seem to be going for the younger players who they can work with. Josh Kelly is probably a better bet.

All very true but you still need some experience in the team and Cheek fits that perfectly and is also capable of being our first 20 goal a season striker for a long time.

I just see he’s fellow team mate has announced he’s leaving too Luke Coulson yes we got Mooney already . But that be good competition plus he add bit more experience .

Or maybe he could fill in for the Rb spot for competition depending on the gus situation?

Could you really afford him? You would need to spend 10% of your budget on his annual wage. Like us your signings seem to have stalled although we don’t have as many to replace as you do. Always plenty of movement this and next week at this level.

We released 16 and this is the amount they played in the League after December:

Rob Howard - 0
Abu Ogogo - 0
Josh Coulson - 0
James Dunne - 4 starts and 5 sub appearances (the longest of which was 14 minutes) - I think Harry Taylor will replace him
Harry Phillips - 0
Lewis Gard - 68 minutes - Wood (signed in February) and Coker and Benton from the youths take his minutes
Simeon Akinola - 0
Will Atkinson - 19 and 3 sub - the weak link in the side and has already been upgraded with Cav Miley
Leon Davies - 13 starts and 4 sub app - a replacement has seemingly been signed but not yet announced
John White - 1 farewell 89th minute sub appearance.
Ashley Nathaniel-George - 0 appearances
Matt Rush - 2 sub appearances totalling 50 minutes
Reiss Chandler - 0
Terrell Egbri - 0
Eren Kinali - 0
Miles Mitchell- Nelson - 0

Their loss isn’t really going to be noticed.

The loss of the loan players is more significant but the loan market hasn’t really opened yet.

Lopata played 11 matches and then Clark 5 and Gubbins 9 and a sub appearance. Lomas, Kensdale and Harry Taylor take their minutes.

Neal played 19+3

Dennis played 13+6 and we’ve basically signed his replacement in Mooney

So from the final 5 months of the season we only really need someone to play Neal’s minutes.

Of course this assumes the three believed to have signed do sign and Tom Clifford accepts his contract offer.

Yes it seems that a lot of them that were in discussions have decided to leave and most of them have thanked their time under Neil Smith so perhaps something is going on in the background at Bromley??

Another departure from Bromley. Luke Coulson just said his goodbyes!
Interesting and a certain member on here kept suggesting him and has close ties to that club.

2+2 = Who ****ing knows with these summer transfers.

A little early perhaps?...of course not.

Guess tomorrow will be interesting. A return to preseason training:
~ who of the injured is fit to return
~who of the contract offered will return, assume if not signing they won’t come in
~will the 3 new signings it true feature. If they do what does that tell us?
~ will we see any trialists?

Without any ITK knowledge on this bit, I’d be surprised if there was any trialists tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a testing day. Before the squad break for summer they do a series of tests, and then these are repeated on day one of pre-season to find out what sort of shape they return in.

I’d imagine, if we were to bring in trialists, and I’m sure we will (not necessarily to sign), they’d start to arrive close to the matches.
