Spot on.

Again, you can't MAKE people sing the right songs. You can only make them WANT to do it.

For me, there are only two relevant questions here:

  • How do you influence a collective group of people to WANT to support the club and team in the right way?
  • How do you do that without sanitising the whole thing too much so that we don't lose the atmosphere, humour and culture that comes with football?

You don't want a library but nor do you want a choir singing a bunch of pre-approved messages.

Agreed Sir.
Although IMO I think the first question is possibly not as difficult as it appears.
As many have alluded too , the NB does have a fair collection of 14-16 year olds ( my son is one of these ).
They are generally 'easily lead' ( both good or bad ) , so think with TBV giving them strong and positive direction , they will for the most part follow the 'right way'.
It is unfair to say that TB and others are 'responsible' for the actions of others etc.
They have no responsibility for the behaviour of others and some people on here are too ready to point the finger at TB for what I can only assume are personal reasons.

I'd be tempted to close the North Bank, and keep the fans to the East, South and West. Since we've been allowed back, the atmosphere has generally been poorer, and i put that down to the crowd being even more spread out than it was previously. Also, it just looks crap with pockets of people here and there, but vast numbers of empty seats all over the place. At least when it was only the away fans in the north bank, you could put that down to them.

I agree that we don't really have enough support for fans in all four sides. Historically howver - the North Bank is our home end. Even in the bad days of 2,000 crowds and a bloody huge South Bank!

Make you right,

Why can't The home fans who want to sing go into south lower as the view is virtually the same and more chance of other sides of the ground joining in,This then allows decent away fans to watch the game without any fear of safety issues.

Had my shoulder tapped by a bigger lad when I called Gary Moore a donkey; was told that,'Lad, he may be a donkey but he's our donkey and Southend donkeys go better on carrots. We use the sticks to keep the likes of you in order, OK, understood?' Understood.:winking:

But if you did that to a kid today they would either stab you or accuse you of being a paedo. they are all feral scratters who want a dose of the cat or a spell in the army, most of them are immigrants or gypos. VOTE UKIP!!!![/QUOTE]

That's one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read. Hats off.

Have TBV considered reaching out for some help/guidance? I know the Holmesdale lot at Palace have links with Italian Ultras and regularly exchange visits.

Totally agree with the 'close the north bank' suggestions. The whole moving back there has worked positivley a few times, but there are more negative than positive posts regarding the situation. I agree that when it is good in there it is very good, but a majority of the time this hasnt been the case. also agree that it just spreads the support out even more than it already did. When you have small attendances you need to ensure that areas are more poulated. some of the better atmospheres of late have been when only two stands are open, more people in two areas, more collective noise. One thing is for sure, i dont want to be sitting in my seat next season talking about the chanting issue of the north bank again, the negativity or the goading of away fans.

Have you been in the South Lower. The view is terrible and its literally full of kids on free tickets with there football clubs which I am not knocking.

Why can the people that want to stand in the North Bank not do so? I dont tell people where they can sit. I much prefer the North its where I started watching Southend, I can stand in there with my friends (who are not hooligans) and watch my side.

Maybe the fact the otjher stands arent full reflects the fact the football has been so bad for so long.

Strikes for what you make ZERO sense

Wembley - that's what happens when you have 25k people with no lasting interest in the club NOT TBV FAULT

Aldershot - my views I am entitled to them again NOT TBV FAULT

Saturday - mixed views on this personally I did not agree with it however we can't make people do things or not say things we are not stewards security or old bill and have no wish to parade round like any of the previous - all we can do is try and guide it to keeping the chanting to supporting the team

You've not answered the question, are you involved in the planning process ? did you bang the drum to the Straker chanting ?

I have said it so many times, people follow the drum. Why are we looling for difficult solutions when the obvious one is starring us in the face. The drum could ONLY support pro SUFC songs. Anything being sung anti SUFC then the drum starts a pro SUFC song . SIMPLE but only simple if this is what those that have influence on the drummer want

It took a while, but a few seem to share my view and it should be shut.

Now the North Bank is open again ..it seems unfair to take that choice away. Many people go in the North to watch the game without joining in with the kids chanting. Why should they be penalised because of a bunch of children?

The old adage if you abuse it you lose it!,The fans I feel sorry for is the decent home and away followers who prefer just to watch the game without getting involved in either silly chants or abusing each other.

So when you close down the North what if all these people move into the West and start chanting against the side. Do we close down the West too?

Its a football ground, by default it attracts a few idiots. Anyone would think these people had shouted abuse at a funeral the way people are going on.

I dont seem to recall people booing or giving players stick when the side was doing well under Tilson. If the performances are better next season then I suspect it will become a null point. Punishing 400 odd people of all ages and walks of life because of the actions of a few idiots is a daft idea IMHO.

If you dont like the chanting why dont you come in and join us. The more the merrier to get behind the side.
