Actually, there may be a point here.....I never remember seeing kids in the old North Bank back in the 70s. Can some of those who used it back then advise if it was adult only? If so, that may be worth some consideration.

but once again, how unfair would that be to u18 who do behave in the north? Your suggestion is just tarring all u18s with the same brush which is insulting

It will all end up being my fault in the end

Its always the case when somebody tries to do something better or differently...

The people who contribute the least , are always the ones to critisise those that try to make a difference the most...

To those people who like to Knock the North Bank,If you dont like it in there , dont go in....

If it wasnt for the North Bank , Roots Hall would be like a Library......

Sorry, I don't see that making an area exclusive to adults is unfair to those under 18. They don't pay full price for their ticket, why should they have access to ALL areas of the ground? It's not a case of who behaves and who doesn't, there's lots of things you can't do till you're an adult, why not this as well?

We used to go in there when we were twelve, as long as you had cropped hair, Doc Martens and would stand your ground if it came on top you was accepted. No one organising us, lots of lads with big personalities not just one oversized ego, just lads supporting SUFC through thick and thin.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the team doesn't play well, fans turn on each other.

Give Scott a rest you lot. He's trying to do something different.

Maybe that is the issue then, as some seem to be saying. I just never remember seeing youngsters in there, all seemed to be blokes in their 20s-40s.

I'm sorry , but I have to agree with Sam ( and before I'm accused of any bias , I don't know him at all ).
Behaviour is not totally related to age , and to say U-18's should be banned from the NB is really unfair.
Many of them go in there and give great / positive vocal support to the team , even through this dire season.
There are more than enough clueless , insulting idiots in all parts of our ground , not just U-18's !

I'm not advocating this should be the way forward, just putting it out there as a suggestion being as a lot of the criticism seems to be aimed at the "wannabes". I fully appreciate that there are some young people who go above and beyond what is asked.

Telling u18's they're not welcome in the area they want to be is a good way of destroying the current and future fanbase of our club

I think the "wannabes" thing is the part that we can't really change.
By their nature , 14-17 year olds will look to attach to something they find exciting ( singing for their team and , yes even the banter with the opposition ) and they will 'follow like sheep' as others have alluded too.
You can't really blame them for that , as it's all part of growing up and it's very rare to find one at that age who wants to 'lead'.
I think the focus ( but not the responsibility ) is on the older ones to guide them in the proper way.
I think the NB , handled correctly , is a massive benefit for our club , and I for one hope it continues.
I think Scott and TBV have for the most part done a great job in the face of awful home form.

Plans are afoot for next season, I for one am glad it's over lessons have been learned and we need to carry that into next season

no no no no no!

What about those that go with their parents ,impose that rule and straight away the NB loosing 20+ adults ---

I don't like the sterotyping , but the 'kids' who people are complaining about follow- they are not leaders. The issue is that they need leaders leading in the correct direction .

It will all end up being my fault in the end
Scott- you are very passionate, of that there is no doubt- but if you put your head above the parapet you have to accept that you will be shot down from time to time. When the NB rocks it gets good feedback on here, if the opposite is true it is only right that it gets bad feedback.

The key as you have alluded to is to learn and move forward. I have no idea what your plans are, and I hope the fact that you have not commented on any of the suggestions on here is not a negative thing. (i.e negative chants- get the drum going on something positive straight away -- people follow the drum, the drummer has a lot of responsibility, and a strong will).

Unfortunately there is one point where you are never going to make everyone happy - including myself (not that I matter- I am just making my point). You enjoy the banter with the opposition , some of us prefer to support the team. Yes we can do both , but sometimes (too often) the pendulum swings too far away from supporting the team.

Don't give up, I have said hundreds of times that I think TBV we can be worth extra points each season and adds to the atmosphere, and I still think that. Successful businesses learn from experience make changes and move on , we simply need to do the same.

No, it was never adult only, it was pretty 'adult' sometimes but I took all that in as part of growing up, I was in the North Bank with my schoolmates from about 11 years old, my Dad was on the South and he told me he didn't mind so long as I didn't use the words I'd learnt in the NB at home in front of my Mum. :winking: Then again they were different days by the time I was 16 I was working out in all weathers in Overhead pole gangs up 80' poles alongside guys who'd cleared mines under fire on the beaches at Anzio and had been rear-gunners in Lancasters, amongst others, did a lot of growing up very quickly around those guys; and I'm grateful to this day to have known every one of them.

They'd go down the front or to the side, the middle section would be packed and rowdy even if the rest of the stand was relatively empty, but they backed the team, only stick/banter was with the opposition keeper who gave stick back.

Yes, started in the North East corner and slowly migrated into the middle as you got older/better known/accepted. Of course back in the day there wasn't any segregation so no nicely penned in part of the ground to aim invective at, having said that of course the NB was pretty much the 'home' end with most away fans being on the South Bank, some interesting 'meetings' happened in the pass-through behind the West Stand....

As I said in a thread ages ago, in the late 60s if anyone abused the players from the North Bank there was always a "bigger" lad who would "advise" you not to do it.

Had my shoulder tapped by a bigger lad when I called Gary Moore a donkey; was told that,'Lad, he may be a donkey but he's our donkey and Southend donkeys go better on carrots. We use the sticks to keep the likes of you in order, OK, understood?' Understood.:winking:

But if you did that to a kid today they would either stab you or accuse you of being a paedo. they are all feral scratters who want a dose of the cat or a spell in the army, most of them are immigrants or gypos. VOTE UKIP!!!!

And the award for the biggest generalisation and over reaction goes to ..............................
